Off Road Diesel

Only difference should be the dye. However, the only time I ever bought some, I had wax globs settle out and mostly plug the outlet from the tank. I took it back, and they accepted it and gave me some on-road.

The wax globs occurred after a couple of nights around 10 F here. Additive very likely would not have prevented them from coming out of solution like that, e.g. complicated chemistry only us chemical engineers are likely to understand.

You retailer may not have the sales volume to keep up with the seasons. I do not use off road diesel for this reason. I buy diesel fuel from retailers that turn diesel fuel over frequently. Truck stops are a good source of fresh fuel that is correct grade for the seasons. BTW, I also add a bit of additive to increase the fuel's lubricity. The current low sulphur diesel fuels are not that friendly with some fuel injection systems.

I do not use off road for this reason as well plus the only place around here close that does have off road is usually a couple of cents higher than the stations with on road diesel. Doesn't make any sense for it to be higher but it is.

Diesel fuel is my second biggest farming expense. I will use about 3000 gallons of off road per year and 1500 of on road.
Prices have already jumped about .60 cents per gallon since October.
Just a 1 dollar per gallon increase in diesel fuel will mean I take home $4500 less annually.

We will be paying $5/gallon in 2 years if what is being promised happens. I can’t charge a nickel more for my product.

I use all off-road or home heating fuel,
In NY it is the same.
In the winter I will blend in about 30% K1 and I add an antigel lubricity additive right in to the bulk tank.
My pumps has a filter with a water block.
Occasionally if extreme cold (-20) is forecast I will add a shot of K1 right to the tractor tank, to bring the mix close to 50/50.
I have had no issues with fuel in quite a few years except for one time when I failed to add the K1 and we got the -20,
added 5 gallons of K1, pulled the filter blew air back into the tank and let it bubble for about 5 minutes installed the new filter,
bleed it out and instead of messing with trying to start it using the starter, threw a chain on it and towed it about 50 ft in high
and off and running. Oh I also stuck a heat lamp up next to the injection pump and engine block while working on her.

Just buy an electric tractor and a long extension cord. That will make them happy.

Off road diesel is about $0.40 less a gallon. Not sure of other states, but i have wired fuel stations here, and both fuels cone out of same tanks.

Learn something new everyday, I was always under the impression off-road diesel contained more sulfur.

Your tractor and other piston powered stuff will be fueled with hydrogen one day. Check out the stock PLUG. Walmart has penned a deal with them to provide the hydrogen fuel cells for their electric truck fleet. Eventually we may have fuel cells providing electricity for our homes. Li batteries have limitations that are overcome by hydrogen fuel cells.
