Retaining walls and patio

Once the 9 pallets of pavers arrive I'll order a skid steer rental so I can get all the heavy lifting done in one day:

- Grading

- Move and spread base material

- Move and spread paver sand

- Move all the pavers close to the work area as the delivery forklift is too wide to get the pallets in the back

Sounds easy when you say it fast.;)

Bobcat t450 and pallet fork rental, 9 pallets of pavers, 8 yards of class 2 road base, 4 yards of granite dust... moved about 10 yards to level out the back yard, started compacting the dirt today. Tomorrow we'll finish leveling the entrie patio area, get the base down, move the sand pile to the back, then move those pallets to the back and get laying. They are big and not many cuts anticipated so we'll see how it goes.

It's getting so that every time I see the Founder has started a new thread my back starts hurting before I even read it. Talk about Pavlov's dog...

Please keep posting, I enjoy reading them.

I need to update the house renovation thread too... plenty of back breaking work there too.

But this one was kind of nuts. So much concrete. We still have a fence to build after it's all done.

Mr. Muhammad, funny how a little project - "Let's repaint the basement walls"...turns into replacing the ceiling, the flooring, doors and fixtures, and oh, new trim too since everything else has been done !!!)

Your's has morphed into a MAJOR project!

Loved (and cringed) with the photo of your hands after the block work...can only imagine they are still in rough shape...

Is the end in sight for you yet???

The end is in sight for this one, yes. Just after we lay 9 pallets of pavers, build a fence, widen the driveway, pour some concrete steps, build another 3-tier retaining wall, install irrigation, and plant landscaping. So yeah pretty much done. This isn't even my house! Over at my house I've still got a bunch of stuff to do, too.

The patio is, of course, a lot more work than you would think. The biggest issue was that there was a lot of earth back there and we had to dig out and level the entire back yard to prep for some base material. First photo shows the dirt somewhat level at the compactor stage.

After the dirt is compacted, we put down about 3 inches of class 2 road base. We used pvc pipes that were leveled each direction and with each other to get an even screed. This worked pretty well with the only challenge being that you have to go through the process many times as you move from section to section.

After the entrie patio area base was compacted we dumped piles of sand so it'll be easier to screed the final sand layer before setting the pavers.

We had to split up the 9 pallets since the bobcat t450 can't lift 3800lbs... apparently.

Well... today the rains came. Heaviest rain in months. This will put a multi-day delay on installing the pavers until the base and sand dry out.

On the plus side a few low spots have been revealed. They would have gotten cold 5 with sand anyway but it's good to know.

Bonus on this picture: you can see where we need the gutter downspout... and you can even see the gutter attachment in the ground ready for the actual gutter.

Is it common for people there to wear a mask when working outdoors?

One plus of the pandemic and masks. It really helped my breathing mowing the lawn, mowing the leaves, and many folks are now finding what I already knew in winter; even a thin mask really warms your breath on a very cold day.
