This unit had 186 hours on the meter. Thats not a huge run time, but it’s significant. Im just glad they didnt wreck the motor.

It's kind of amazing what some engines will put up with for a while... A mechanic once showed me a Toyota that was in for intermittent VVT errors, appeared it had 100,000km on an oil change: There was so much sludge in the cam covers that the camshafts were sitting in tunnels.

We had a power outage at new year. Clocked 12 hrs on to the generator. Realized I wanted generator further from house to reduce noise. Changed oil today. Fired her up. New cable works just fine. Back in the barn and hooked up to battery tender to await her next test run in the spring.

I'm more interested in knowing why his honda can't run a 300 watt fan, but i agree, i would just throw a 24v charger at the honda, vs a softstart module.

My EU2000i runs the fan (squirrel cage fan) with ease its starting it that gives the eu2000i fits. There is considerable inertia spinning the fan cage up to speed.
Last night I checked the starting current and recorded 21.5 amps significantly more than the Honda is rated for.
The Honda is ideal for this application if I can resolve the starting issue.
I feel a soft start module would be the best solution if I can determine what I need.

contact Hyper Engineering. They have 120 v soft starts. Their tech people are top notch.

this is the gold standard for starting rv ac units with honda's or any small generators, i haven't read a single negative comment on them

Good stuff TM .

IIRC, in/around that time you also got that minor carb problem resolved too.

Thank LB.

Like many technical people, I'm drawn to more efficient solutions, so long as there are no major trade-offs - Reliability being at the top of my list, esp. on a generator application.

90 - looks like you may have some good options to choose from. First time I've heard about Hutch..... but I'd never heard of Hyper either....... one of my favourite reasons for hanging out on TBN is to learn about options like this.
