What's gonna happen when that steel roof starts to rust, inside and outside? Not a project or prospect that I would want to be faced with.

Its like 3/8 steel.

Kinda depends on what steel he used.
If he used COR-TEN steel, it will likely never be a problem.

I must have missed the post where Andrew told his intended use for the second floor of his castle. Does he live or intend to live up there?

I've re-run the above before deciding Andrew never told what he plans to do with the second story. I do remember him saying he needed a pitched roof because the flat one was leaking.

I can't even justify a sheet of 3/8 for a welding table. The weight must be tremendous.

Steel shipping/cargo containers walls are made from 14 gauge..

However the containers on that castle hardly see any weight of the roof.
