Reclining Chairs ?? Any manufacture make a good one?

I have the exact same problem with my chair. Within a year the leather started breaking down and splitting. No warranty. We have leather La-Z-Boys that are 15 and about 30 years old and the leather is as good as new, must not be making the leather the same as they used to.

We have experienced the same with leather furniture. Must be a new type of of cow.

I remember a story one of the family members at our local Chinese restaurant told me. At the time the store in Portland opened for business, he went there and bought a couch. He went on to tell of the overwhelming store, all things they have and navigating through it all. But when he realized that he would have to put the couch together , that part freaked him out to the degree he returned it. Had to go back in the store..... I think I've been there twice when family from out of town wanted to go to the big city. Quite an organization. The guy who started it just died within the last couple of years. He lived very frugally.

I remember when that store opened near the airport in Portland. It was nuts.

i had to fly in and out twice a week or so, the traffic jam caused by the excited lkea shoppers was epic! They showed drone photos of the lines of cars on the local news.

I wonder if those were the same portlandia people that were going to minimize their material life styles?

Do you really think that a store which would have yearly fire code inspections (in Alberta they do) would be able to get away with designing a store against the fire codes? I say this and then I see your "laughing symbol" so I guess there is the answer to my question.

My wife and I have been to IKEA once. We were walking around looking and got ready to leave and we realized we had to either retrace our steps or keeping following the path to get out. We both decided once was enough.

I have a 10 yo Big Man Lazy Boy and I put it through the paces. Just change a spring here and there and it should last another 5 years. 270# and rough.

I have a big Lazy Boy too, of about the same vintage. It broke twice while still under warranty. The third time I took it out to the shop, drilled out all the plastic press fittings, and replaced them with bolts. Since then it has worked pretty good. I have lost 60 lbs since I bought it, and am down to 250 now, so that may have something to do with it.

Lazy Boy recliners have "reclined" quality wise in the last 10 years. We have two LB recliners. The first has held up reasonably well. The second, going on three years old now is just cheap and not in price. The mechanism has plastic structural parts. LB's warranty is worthless. One of the plastic parts broke. To have LB repair it would require a LB inspection fee and transport back to their facility. Okay, just send me the part and I'll repair it. Nope... yes the part is replaced under the warranty, but you have to pay $30 shipping and handling. And the parts are a pair. So I have an extra left side plastic part wire tied to the underside of the recliner. Arrow points to one of the plastic mechanism parts.

No LB recliner purchase again for this house.

Late post I guess. I have back problems, sitting in just about any chair hurts. I buy so-called "zero gravity" chairs from the Relax-the-back store. Very expensive, but you can get them on sale if you're patient. There's some lightweight zero-gravity themed porch furniture if you want to try it out for cheaper.

Basically these chairs keep your body parts at 90 degree angles relative to each other, and by angling the whole chair back you have a lot of the stress removed from what would normally be vertical pressure on your spine.

I find it really helps, it's the only chair I find relief with, even if it costs as much as a 3PH attachment Good luck!

I'm guessing Relax the Back would still be open for chair tryouts. I wouldn't even remotely consider buying one a critical chair on faith if you have a bad back. They're not going to accept a return (for free anyway) after delivering and assembling a chair in your house. Relax the Back had about 4 manufacturers of zero gravity chairs, but there was only one that was a good fit for me.

I get what you are saying but I have had HORRIBLE results getting boots to fit correctly when buying in a store. NEVER, EVER had a problem with getting proper fitting shoes or boots with mail order. :confused3::shocked::laughing:

It makes NO sense what so ever, but it is what it is, and I have no explanation how this can possibly work. :laughing::laughing::laughing:

I too agree that Lazy Boy quality has declined over the years. I've purchased 4 over the last 30 years. The first was terrific, second very good, and now good enough seems to be their goal. And they want $100 for the armrest and headrest cloth covers that were once included. Pathetic.

I am familiar with Ashley as they have a big presence in Mississippi. I think like most furniture manufacturers today they make some decent furniture in the the US and import a lot of stuff. I think the buyer has to really look at furniture now to determine quality as all brands seem to have good stuff and cheap junk.

I lost my phone down the a crevice in a manual recliner that I use a fair amount. While removing the cushions and flipping it over to extract the phone, I saw the brand. BarcaLounger. Not a bad chair.
