If you don't want to do it yourself I'd try to find a hydraulic shop to do it rather than going to the dealer. The hydraulic place I go to has walls full of tools to install the seals and they do that all day. They put it on a test bench when they're done so you know it will work. And I'd guess they'll be cheaper than the dealer.

Thanks for the suggestion. I had thought about that, and am going to contact a couple local shops.

I'm not really keen on doing it myself... mostly because I worry I would need a special tool, or need experienced knowledge to do the job right.

It may even be cheaper to use a Hydraulic shop.

Thanks again.

Make sure you have cash on you....

I took one of mine where I couldn't find a correct kit for it.... took it to a shop and essentially said "fix this one and give me an extra set of parts so I can fix its twin that I have at home"

No problem I asked about how much... 'hmmmm..... maybe $75" so I said fine.

Go back later to get it.... he says $75, I hand him my debit card... he looks at me.... says $75 was for cash. If I use plastic it will be a little more.

I don't care....that's fine, I don't typically carry cash on me.

He returns and has rung it up..... it's $150

WTF???

Bit my tongue and paid the bill. Driving home talking with the wife, it dawned on me that these guys probably have a little cottage industry going on in the back.... for those that pay cash, cost is cheaper but probably never gets rung up. Since I used my card, it had to go through the proper channels.

So, were they stealing? I don't know. Ticked me off. Had he simply told me up front the cost difference PRIOR to running it on my card, I could have gone to bank & pulled some cash out.

I doubt I'll ever go back there again but, if I DO, you can bet that I'll have cash on me just in case they pull a stunt like that again.

We’re they stealing?

My answer is yes. It’s one thing to charge you more for cc to cover the 3%-4% processing fee, but another to charge 50%. Seems pretty clear the cash price was off the books and would not be taxed.

So, they were trying to steal from Uncle Sam.

Think it's called 'cottage industry' , 'back yard mechanic' and sometimes 'black market'.
Heck of a lot more out there like that and in many trades.

OK, understand a modest 'processing charges' but to double?
I'd have tossed , say, $100. and said, take it or leave it or I'll be back with cash later.

I get your sentiments...

I felt they were probably stealing from their employer.

I had no ability to pull any cash out as I normally don't have $5.00 on my person.

When he said it would cost more, I (having once worked at a bank) presumed it was the card charges and didn't care about that. But....then the card got ran and I didn't know the total until AFTER it had been processed.

So a bit of egg on my face for not asking up front (I tend to be a trusting type believing that people are honest and will do the right thing.... )

Anyway, it's not like they charged me $4,000 so chalked it up to a life lesson.
