Three day challenge

Way ahead of you. Last drink was August 87. Last cigarette was June 06. Wish I would have never tried or started either.

I guess he has quit drinking alcohol.
If he hasn't, who gets him his alcohol if he can't walk?
No. He cannot quit now. We forcibly got him to the ER at one point. We were told he would die fairly quickly going through the DTs at the level he is at. He had two choices: a medication that causes aversion to alcohol or drinking a controlled amount. Of course he chose alcohol.
His wife buys the controlled amount, his "friends" sneak alcohol to him.

Sad that the family must continue to support the alcohol companies that facilitated the problem.

That always works out well. See post #4.

I was talking about old Coke with sugar VS new Coke with high fructose corn syrup.

However, I doubt he's enjoying himself in that condition in post #4.

I drink Pepsi or Dr Pepper real sugar soda. Very hard to find Dr. Pepper sugar. We avoid anything with high fructose corn syrup.

My brother called last night, very weak sounding. What's so sad to me straight A student all through school, highly educated (PhD), very successful in business. Now he has almost nothing.
Everyone should see the 1962 movie "Days of Wine and Roses".

Hard to watch people self destruct. I was on that path in my youth. Glad I changed priorities. You have to want to quit. Some people just can't. Their wires get crossed and it's hard to sort things out.

Very true. Unless the individual makes that crucial decision then there is no hope.

It seems like something was lost in translation, because those two choices don't make sense to me. Antabuse will make someone quite sick if they drink, but that's completely separate from detoxing.

A treatment facility would use drugs to assist with easing the initial withdrawal symptoms, so he doesn't die going through DTs. If he has a network of enablers at home that bring alcohol to him, then it probably wouldn't help. It often becomes a family disease.
