Strange things your pets do...

Sam, our Shepard mix pound dog - dearly loved but now gone had an endearing habit. We had a bunch of 3" dia ten foot long PVC drain pipes behind the barn. Sam once found that a squirrel was inside a section of the pipe and he chewed up both ends trying to get at it. All he managed to do was terrify the squirrel and make it squeak constantly. So finally he drug the pipe section up to the house (about 300 feet from where he found the pipe) and continued to swing that long pipe back and forth trying to get it out, stopping now and then to look pleadingly at me for help. I heard the squirrel and picked the pipe up vertically and pounded it on the ground until the squirrel popped out which he then caught. Well, after that, I assume he thought I was some sort of magician with the power to pop squirrels out of any pipe sections he brought to me. So he kept dragging pipe sections up into the yard for me to pop squirrels out of. I finally had to build a storage area for the pipe that he could not get to.

You win. There's no sense in posting any more stories, as I doubt that anything can top this one.

my wife once accidentally let the 2 golden retrievers watch her pick corn and she gave a few ears to the dogs that wernt very ripe. once they learnd that ears of corn were edible, they began ripping the ears off of the stalks. i had to put up a fence to keep them out of the garden. thanks hon...i needed one more jo9b around here.

We had a golden retriever that learned to pick blackberries, with us... very carefully as to not get pricked!!!

Wow. My cat wants out also but hasn’t figured out that trick yet.

Cats are curious (but not so smart) pets. Once, I left the washer top open (top loading) to get some stuff. Came back and the cat is in the washer! He has also jumped behind the dryer.

I accidently ran our siamese cat through a couple tumbles in the dryer. I was in a hurry while doing laundry.

Emptied the dryer into the basket, hauled it to the bedroom. Went back and switched the wash from the washer to the dryer. Spun the nob, hit start and heard Thump......... Thump.

Opened up the dryer and out stumbles a ticked off cat

Our golden retriever will pick and eat blackberries, red raspberries and strawberries if we let her.

OMG. I’m glad you realized something was wrong.

You would think that experience would teach the cat a lesson. But, I will bet the cat would go inside the dryer again if given the chance.

Thanks for your comment. It prompted me to think about Sam, and made me want to share what I posted on fb when Sam left us. It is not a 'strange' pet story, but does capture what our pets mean to us.

Sam
We remember the furry ball of energy
Bouncing around in a small cage at the shelter
Such an easy choice
He came home with us
And became our friend

It was a nice home
There were hills, and cows
A cat, and grass and adventures
With countless trees
And lots of squirrels, so many squirrels

He seemed happy in the role he fashioned
Knowing he was protecting his family
From pigs, coyotes, skunks, and more
And patrolling our air-space
Barking at passing crows and buzzards

Whether on foot or on the tractor
Howsoever long the journey
Sam would come along
Ever ready for any task
Knowing he was essential to the adventure

I often wondered what he was thinking
As he watched from some shady spot
As I spent hours on the tractor
Moving dirt or boulders or grading
He probably thought we were hunting squirrels

And I suppose he thought I did not really know much
About catching squirrels
Because he knew they lived in the pipes behind the barn
Which he would from time to time drag into the yard
So we could help him pop out a squirrel or two

Sam never judged
He never complained
He loved everyone unconditionally
He only wanted to be near us
And so he was - always near us

We had far the better bargain for it
But today
Sam is not resting in the shade
And is not watching the man on the tractor
Silently crying
As he prepares a final resting place for his friend
Near us

Our laundry is in the basement. We've had cats for years, and quickly learned they love the warm dryer and the freshly folded warm clothes. So we put a screen door on that half of the basement, and now the cats stand there and meow at us through the screen anytime we're doing laundry.

Thankfully it was just two rotations in the dryer and I had the door open. Sounded similar to a shoe being placed in the dryer and flopping around. I was starting another load in the washer so I was standing next to the dryer.

I knew the linens I put in there shouldn't be making that sound, so I was quick to inspect.

Our shepherd likes to help with folding laundry we will dump.the baskets on the bed to fold it and put it away.

She has to climb up and lay across the pile of warm clothes. Then out come the teeth when you try to get what ever she laying on

My nephew, who passed away in Oct.,was a rancher and he and he and his wife had 2 border collies that slept in the house in their own beds. Early in the morning one would come into their bedroom and paw his arm to get him to take her out to pee. He would, then go back to bed. An hour or so later the other dog would come in and go to his wife's side of the bed and pass gas letting her know it was time to go poop.
They were pretty well trained people. I suppose that now his widow has to make 2 trips out, but knowing her, she probably has them trained to go out at the same time.

My German Shepherd has to take medicine for an allergy. Most of the time, my wife hands me the pills to give to him. I tell him its time for your medicine "open your mouth" and he just opens his mouth and waits for me to push the pills behind his tongue.
He also seems to have a clock inside him. Every morning at 9am he starts harrassing me, nosing my arm, because that is to him, his play time. If I ignore him, he just jumps up on me putting his nose right in my face. When I finally get up he gets really excited and jumps up on me then runs to the door whinning away till we go out and toss the frisbee.
The other thing is that he knows when either me or the wife is thinking about going somewhere and he sits and watches us intently. Then when we are about ready, he runs to the door, opens it himself and runs to the car so he gets to go along for the ride.
He also thinks it is his job to wake me each morning, usually just about daylight. He comes to the bed and nuzzles my arm till I scratch him a bit. He has a snooze alarm also, if I tell him it is too early because I want to sleep in a bit, he goes away and comes back in about 10 minutes to repeat.
Once he is sure I am getting up, he leaves and goes back to his bed to sleep till Mom gets up(usually about 830 but sometimes earlier.
He also wont wake Mommy if he wants to go out, instead he comes to me to let him out at night. This is usually because he has smelled / heard a creature roaming outside.

We currently have two cats. Our vet told us to start feeding them some wet canned catfood to balance their diet. So I started giving it to them in the morning when I get up to go to work. Bad idea. They quickly learned morning is for the good food, so they started walking all over us and harassing us in bed before the alarm goes off. Then they kept starting earlier and earlier, sometimes 4:00am. YIKES! and unacceptable! So I cut them off cold turkey, and started giving it to them at night before I go to bed, usually around midnight-1:00am. They quickly learned to start the harassment around 10:00pm. I can take that better than 4:00am.

"Is he asking to drive?". This was the day I went and got him from the breeder. It's his very first ride in a vehicle and I think he is getting a little anxious. It was an hour ride home.

Our female lab “Lucy” has decided that she doesnt trust anybody but me.
She use to like to be around everybody but lately I am the only one she will mind. Offers of food and treats are refused unless they lay it down and walk away. It is then looked over and heavily sniffed before being ate.
We have a large run and shelter for her at night and when we are gone, Im the only one she will go up for.
My wife says that the dog needs a shrink.
I think its where I am the only one home with her during the day, and she has became my shadow.

As the saying goes “cats don’t have owners, they have servants”.

Here is the lion king of our household.
