Rear weights vs rear tires filled?

R4 vs R1? I had R1 on the L3301 and believe it is the best tire to avoid getting stuck. However I'm not working in muddy soil. The R4 should minimize marking of the lawn area.

The detented valve discussed is the OEM valve having a detented float position. The raise/lower positions are self centering, not detented. There are many top & tilt users that report advantages to a hydraulic top link operated by a valve having a float position.

I'm embarrassed to say I'm one of the users reporting an advantage to a float on the top link because I use it all the time when I bush hog. Not sure what I was thinking, and even more embarrassing is I chose and installed the valve myself. Old age I guess.
I'd be interested in knowing an application for float on the tilt cylinder, maybe there's a way to do something easier that I haven't thought about.

Go for the r4's... they are bigger, wider, and heavier. Most certainly get the rears filled. get option 2 on the remotes, you're gonna want one set with float. Also do the 3rd function for a grapple.

Comparing the L3301 vs MX5400:
Weight (lb) 2778 vs 3734
Height (ROPS) 91.7" vs 95.7"
Width 55.1" vs 69.7"
Ground Clear. 13.6" vs 15.2"
Wheelbase 63.3" vs 74.6"

The extra 1,000 lbs makes me lean toward the R4 but the R1 provides the better traction in dirt or mud.

The extra 14" in width will make me have to remove more trees to get access in the woods.

Unless you will be working a lot on turf grass I'd get the R-1 tires and have the rears set at the maximum width.

I'm not understanding your comment about the addditional 1000 lbs when R4 tires are fitted. Your example shows two different tractor models.

The much larger wheels tires on the MX relative to the L3301 will bridge holes and ruts much better, improving traction over rough ground. Implements will oscillate less due to less tractor bounce.

I transport downed trees and brush in volume over asphalt roads to a community burn pit. R4s are much better road tires that R1s. I occasionally get the front tires into moderately hot ashes "pushing up" partially burned material. I like the six ply structure of R4s. I actually have ten-ply Titan R4s on the front.

I am retired. If the weather is bad the tractor stays in the garage. Is your situation such that you HAVE to tractor regardless of weather, regardless of soil moisture?

Why do you have Mick Jagger as your photo?

The extra 1,000 lbs is the difference between the MX5400 and the L3301 (that I just sold)
