3 phase converted to single phase

How difficult/expensive to convert a 3 phase propane generator to single phase for home use? Would the transfer switch need to be changed also?

You need to derate the output. For instance if its a 20 kw the single phase output will be about 14 KW. Its not done very often. Some generators can be rewired in the stator can, some can’t. Need to check with manufacturer

Check with the manufacturer. I am not sure you need to do anything. If it is a 230V 3 Phase generator, you maybe able to just connect to two of the three wires to use for single phase power. This is what I would do coming off a 3 phase transformer. I am just not sure it is OK to do from a generator?

Ive seen it done, but its not recommended. Hard on an alternator. Not the same as a transformer. Better 3 phase units have wiring in stator can that can be swapped around to get single phase

Do you plan to convert the generator to single phase or just use one phase of the three? The Cycle Stop Valve url has no bearing. If you elect to use a single phase of the three be advised that the single phase voltage may not be what you expect. You should consult with an electrician for your own safety and that of the equipment..

Model 20 RZ

I cant find any wiring diagram on the 20RZ, But I did find one on the 12RZ. It shows that it had a 12 wire stator that can be rewired to single phase pretty easily. But it will still derate generator by 33%. So a 20 kw unit will be a put 14 KW output.

But it should work.
