Drywall delivery was cancelled again on Friday, supposed to deliver in the morning. Of course it’s 100% chance of in the morning, so who knows if it will show.

I got all my phone, data and camera lines run, the foyer closet built and most of the blocking in for all the cabinets.

I’ll take pictures of all blocking and put a tape measure on them in the pictures tomorrow. I’m hoping they will start hanging drywall on Tuesday.

I also run blocking like crazy but don’t sweat it if you miss putting it somewhere. The only place it’s truly necessary is for cabinets and grab bars.

TV’s are so light today that all you need is the right anchor.

Typically I’m able to hit a stud on one side and use these anchors on the other side of the tv bracket. The anchors alone are good enough but I always hit studs when I can.

I run a romex from the tv to the equipment location in the cabinet so I can put an end on it and plug it into a surge suppressor / UPS back up battery. (Really nice if you record programs and have power issues) IMG_1839.JPG

Drywall delivery cancelled again this morning, guy turned into the driveway, decided it was too icy, turned around and drove off. Getting in and out is the worst spot, if he had taken a minute to have a discussion, he would have known that if he can do what he did, the rest is a breeze. Pretty frustrated with the supplier, as this is the 3rd cancellation.

Now they say they can’t fit me in again until Friday. Very frustrating.....

Unfortunately, I can’t find any other supplier that will stage it in the house that can bring it any sooner. Just have to wait it out. Drywall contractor is still dealing with effects of the ice storm and without most utilities, so he is ok with the delay and starting next Monday. I was afraid he would have to move on to his next job and I’d be pushed out, but that doesn’t seem to be the case.

Drywall will be delivered tomorrow morning. Also have 50 tons of gravel coming for the main drive, winter has not been good to my driveway and I’m tired of the slop.

Hope to get started on siding this weekend sometime.

Are you paying for each sheet of drywall or is it just a total cost for the job? I've seen dozens and dozens of sheets left over that the home owner paid for, but where never used. Then the contractor keeps all the extra sheets for another job, and the home owner is never refunded what they paid for.

I bought the material myself. Contractor is charging 55 cents per square foot of board to hang and finish. I only pay him for the boards he uses. Anything left will stay and be used in the garage.

Delivery went pretty good. Drywall contractor may start over the weekend instead of waiting until Monday. Just depends on if his help wants to work the weekend or not.

I’d like to get started on siding, but it’s supposed to rain all weekend, so not sure how much I’ll be able to do with out getting wet, just have to see how it goes. Still have plenty of work to do in the garage and basement so I won’t fight the rain too much, since I have other stuff to work on.

Nice 60 degree day allowed me to work outside. I got one corner up, and all the j channel and soffit on the front of the garage. Also pressure washed the mud off that part of the foundation and put a bunch of straw against the foundation to help keep mud off of it. The white wire is a cat5 for a camera.

Supposed to rain all day tomorrow but I hope to get the starter strip on, j channel across the front porch, and start siding. If rain doesn’t allow that, I’ll work on finishing the garage wiring and insulation.

Forecast looks pretty good after tomorrow so hopefully that will allow me to get a lot of siding on while the drywall is being done.

I've battled clay stains on a foundation too many times. Never found a good way to deal with it that lasts through the whole project. Just have to keep renewing straw or mulch periodically.

How are you cutting the soffit? We used to put a whole stack of it on a sliding miter saw and chop off a bunch at a time. Can't say it was elegant, but it sure was noisy and exciting.

I cut that with a pair of hand shears. I have a fine toothed blade I could put on my sliding miter saw, but wasn’t planning on working on a bunch of soffit yesterday, so didn’t set it up yet. Shears work well, just hard on the hands after a while.

I think you'll run out of steam with hand shears when doing long runs. Skil saw also works well if you don't have a slider saw setup.

Agreed, I will definitely be using a saw when I go at it again. I just did not plan on doing as much as I did at the time. You know, just a few more pieces, then a few more, etc....

I used to have a battery skil saw that I kept a blade just for soffit, but it died a few years ago and I never replaced it. Battery never lasted long enough to use on boards, but it worked well for soffit.

Didn’t get to do anything outside today, they said it would rain, and boy did it ever. Poured all day. Flooding all around, just after getting everything cleaned up from the ice storm, several of the same roads are now closed due to flooding. I’m ready for some dry weather and looks like we will get some the rest of the week after tomorrow morning.

Spent most of the day picking up in prep for the drywall hanging to start tomorrow. Trimmed all the shims around doors and windows and foamed around the doors. I did get most of the garage wired up as well.

Any saw used with vinyl siding will be full of vinyl dust which clings to it by static. Jon

I don’t recall issues with a saw cutting vinyl siding. I use miter saw with a backwards plywood blade to cut.

After drywall delivery being delayed a week and a half due to the ice storm, my drywall guy was flooded in this morning and couldn’t get here......sure hope this trend does not continue. Not sure I have seen the rivers up this high in my lifetime.

Drywall finally got going mid week. They will finish hanging tomorrow. They aren’t the fastest but appear to be doing a good job.

I’ve had to spend a lot of the evenings adding nailers in places I missed. I did get sometime over the weekend to get some siding started and now have most of the front trimmed out. I’ll be able to get going good with siding tomorrow evening. Haven’t got any good pictures of siding progress but will as I get more done.

I can’t get logged in to the site through Tapatalk since the newest update, and can’t seem to get pictures to load through the iPhone app, I’ll post some pics as soon as I get it figured out.

I got logged in through Tapatalk, but there is no longer a function to add pictures. The app appears to only let me add them as an attachment and when you click on the link it just takes me to a log in screen. If anyone has any ideas, let me know.
