Dogs wondering off to die?

He was an outside dog. I far as roaming I guess my question would be why not? We live on 80 acres.

My belief is if you own a dog, it's no different than any other animal, and you need to account for them.

Generally, if you have cows, horses, goats, donkeys (the list goes on) the animal is kept on the property by fence, and you know the animal is on your property. We all know a 3 wire fence isn't going to contain a dog like other 4 legged animals (heck, my dog fence couldn't contain at least 2 who were escape artists).

That said, I have no doubt that your dog was considered part of the family. Love the pic of him slobbering in your car with the dirt on his nose.

Those pictures are breaking my heart. We have to cats that we have had for over 12 years that got sick at the same time, I think they use up 8 of their lives because the vet brought both of them back. Pets become family.

Well I guess the fact that we sit on 80 acres with the house dead center of a 50 acre square I just don't see a reason to. No offense, just different opinion I guess. If I lived in the city or had neighbors or other livestock that they bothered my opinion would be different. I just don't see a reason to make my dogs live on a chain or in a fence with my situation here. Just don't see the benefit to the animal or anyone else if they never leave the property.

My 16 yr old cat JJ was getting older didnt see so well, slept a lot more, always went in and out the doggie door. Had a crew to put on a new roof and she ran away July29 0f last year. printed 100 fliers ,we live in the country with half mile driveway from paved rd. put fliers out for miles. Nothing no neighbor sighting , just vanished. whatever it was i hope it was quick for her. I have joked that i would rather wife ran off than the cat. Havent been able to cry ,even though im sure she is not coming home.Damn , I miss her. Sorry for all who have lost a pet, Have own graveyard with multiple cats n dogs buried, all their tags are on a big ring on the front doorknob,all but JJs, every time the doggie door makes a noise i look for her,but it is always one of the other ones.

Every dog I have owned has been trained to stay on the property and can go outside by themselves anytime they want. They don’t run off because they love being with us and want to please us.

The Coyotes have come up to the property line but seem to respect our dogs territory and turn away.

It might be your territory that they (coyotes) respect . . .

Best way to teach a coyote about "boundaries" is with a fast moving varmint bullet.

Preferably through the central chest cavity.

Yelling, shouting and waving your arms at them does diddly squat.
