Help us out here, what is startling?? Temperature inversions happen everywhere and all the time.

Sorry. I thought it was obvious, although I guess there is little visual reference in the picture. Boat appears to be floating in mid air.
O.K. Now I wonder. That picture is around by a number of sources, and was apparently on the Cornish coast.
Then I find this. So, Who knows what's real and not real anymore? This has nothing to do with temperature inversion and bending of light.

We see oddball temperature inversion mirages of the Chicago skyline from the east coast of Lake Michigan. Chicago is 53 miles away. Normally you can't see but a speck of the top of a couple buildings from here. But a few times per year, you get weird ones like this...

I cannot for the life of me figure out what the U.S. Coast guard would be doing in Canadian waters. As if I would ever listen to what they say/order. I am a Canadian and I obey Canadian laws and the U.S. C.G. can kiss my royal Canadian honeysuckle A-hole as long as I am in Canada.

Many of these lakes and rivers are boundary waters so the US and Canadian governments have worked together to keep them safe and commence operating for many, many years.
This video is ice breaking on the St Clair river by the Canadian breaker the Samuel Risley with a USCG vessel which I can not identify. I'd say working together is a good thing...
