I am finding that when I open a picture in a thread to full size, when I hit the back (reverse) arrow, I get dumped back to thread index of what ever I am looking at (usually todays posts). I should be backing out of the picture to the thread the picture is in(single hit on the "back" arrow key).
That is how the old look worked.
Does anyone else have this problem?

Might help if you explain what type of device you are using.
I use iPad and after viewing full sized picture I touch the picture and an X appears in the upper right corner, just touch the X and everything goes back to normal.
I’m liking the new forum it’s greatly improved.

I also do it the way Cycledude says. Works just fine. I have an Apple computer - running Catalina.

It's actually easier... You don't have to hit any button, just click on the gray area outside of the photo and it goes away (click on photo and it enlarges). If you want to click on something to close the photo, "X" on the upper right hand side does it. (yes, it takes time to learn the new way...)

Also for computer keyboard users, after clicking the picture, use left or right arrows if there are more pictures.

Use Esc or Backspace to close the picture viewer and show the post again.

Another option if on a desktop or if using a mouse with a scroll wheel, click on the picture with the scroll wheel and it will open in a new tab on the browser, or control and left click does the same thing.

I was taught to use the back arrow and not any other way.
Cycledude, old and tired, and Xfaxman, thank you, I have tried your methods and they work for me. Old dog learned new tricks.
Rangerfredbob, I use a 3M ergonomic mouse (regular mouse is to painful)and it actually works as you said. On most websites the scroll button does not work so this is a pleasant surprise.

My system is a PC, dual booted with Win 10 and Ubuntu 20.04 (version of Linux) The problem occurs on both systems.

Please consider this thread resolved. Thank you all.
