Maybe consider something like this...

Hi, don't really want to do 3-5 hundred dollars just to beat a JD piece of stubborn into shape. But thanks for information. I like the hose clamp idea though and the $40 replacement of the pull back collar. Thanks to all of you.

G'day Mate and welcome to TBN from Downunder.

Did you raise the implement to a height where the driveshaft was parallel with the PTO?
G'day
Thanks, no - it wasn't level, the rototiller was down about five degrees from the PTO shaft so there was definitely an uphill tilt. Thanks again.

Maybe they will come down in price after a while, when they get more known and popular? (Economy of scale.)

A combination of mistakes on my part caused me to replace the pull back connector on my post hole auger with a push pin type I already had. It's easier to hook up now.

Have to laugh at their “old wise farmer” model. His clothes have never seen a day of work in their life. Looks like the tags are probably still on them. .
...but maybe with that PTO system they stay that clean.

They even move the top link to make it more accessible

This is what I did for a mid mount mower shaft. Can’t take credit someone else had the idea. Works well.

Interesting but a little more detail will help.

What's going on here? What kind of clip? How does it keep the collar ope n?

I don't have a problem with them.

Ignore the collar. Push and turn the joint until it slides onto the splines. It will stop when the collar's latch hits the end of the PTO shaft. THEN pull back the collar and push the joint on all the rest of the way.

The difficulty comes from pulling back the collar from the beginning, while trying to align the splines, when it is not needed.
