$500 surcharge for tire kickers and lowballers

Years ago I bought a used F350 with a dump bed for a very good price, but already had a work type bed I planned on switching to. So, I placed an ad for the dump bed; pick up for free. Not one phone call. Month later I put 1200 bucks on it and sold it for a thousand within 3 days. Go figure.... People are nuts.

Would you take 3 chickens and an underfed cow for it?

I have even given my buyers who have not squabled about price, the usual haggled discount I build into any price. That is, when CASH changes hands. Always nice to see their surprise! I'm not RICH, but I guess I believe in that stupid saying about what goes around.

Mo, Glad you got the top poster spot. THAT was embarrassing when I saw I had it! At least it was for the shortest month. lol

Laying hens, or meat birds? I'm already getting more eggs than I need... How old is the cow? Young enough to be freshened? :D
I have said it before. It's kind of the Elephant in the room on this site. An $800.00 sale would matter to me. And something, where I would give a little patience to make the sale.
It depends on what's for sale. In this case it's an old pickup which needs work, but would be a good vehicle for the right person.
I would either add 15%-20% to be talked down so the buyer thinks they're getting a deal OR...just make sure you put the words "FIRM" and or "no negotiating" in the ad...
I've always believed that when somebody says "Firm" it really means they can be talked down. My actual cash price is $650... I added some to the price and hopefully will get it.

I just sold my backhoe and the first line in the add was “unless you have the money to bring me X out now. One of my friends saw the add and said I sounded like a jerk and I told him maybe so but he fell in the category that didn’t have the money. It must’ve worked. I only got about 5 messages on it and 1 of them bought it. One screwball offered me 37,800 for the backhoe AND my mini excavator thar was visible in one of the add pictures.
I didn't think that it would take you long to sell it.

Ha! I am on TBN on my iPhone. That stuff doesn’t show on the phone.

I'm advertising my 2004 Ford Ranger for $800 and am going to let my bad attitude show on Craigslist again. The above is going to posted right in the ad. I'll talk to somebody who really is interested, but for the inevitable "will you take $200" the price will go up accordingly. It does need a little work but is a good truck for what I'm asking. Before I give it away I'll fix and run it myself.
I did that the last time I tried selling something on Craigslist list. Each time I had a low baller, the price sky rocketed.

We actually sell on Facebook market place now with really good luck.

Items are usually gone within a day or two. And usually for asking price. I've had a couple items go for over asking price if I held the item for a person for a day or two.

I might have offered $37,900 for the pair!;)

For me, adding "firm" to the price has worked well. So has, "I priced to sell so price is firm". Have always sold things that way and usually no one even tries to lo-ball me. It seems to scare the window shoppers away.

What has worked best is "Send phone number and best time to call" at the end of the ad. Serious people do; losers don't want to be identified. Also, I answer all "is it sold?" emails with "Yes. Send phone number and best time to call". I've had nearly a 100% success rate on CL.

For me, a phone conversation filters people out, builds a conversation and helps me size the other guy up.
