OTOH if supply ever does come back I'll be one of those buying it up. Last time I thought that 1000 rounds of .22 shells and 5 boxes for each handgun and long rifle was enough; it wasn't. I haven't fired a gun this year, and am going through withdrawal. I used to burn 20 rounds through my MarkII every night, and a dozen rounds through my .357 on the weekend.
See how you are? You were cussing the guys buying up all the ammo just a minute ago, and the first thing you want to do if ammo ever gets plentiful again is go out and buy ammo. You arent going to be satisfied with no lousy 1000 rounds for your .22 are you? NOOOOOOO, you already have plans for at least 10 times that much...Yes you do, don't deny it. You already have a place picked out in your head where you are going to store it, and you have thought out how your going to finance it...Yeah, "not going to catch me with my pants down again".. no sir. Welcome to the club. :)

I am not waiting, I am buying what little ammo my budget allows as I find it. I know everyone says it will come back, and I really hope it does, but things seem to be a little different this time around, as far as who is in control of the laws that make sense to us.

There is 7.62x39 and 12 gauge 2-3/4 7.5 shot pretty available if you are actively looking. There has been some 50 rnd boxes of 22lr, and a couple weeks ago, Academy had probably 2 dozen cases of 200 .223. Prices are bad, but not Insane. I dont want to pay $0.50/rnd for 7.62, for $7/50 for 22, but if you look its out there. Friend said he saw a crap ton of Creedmore the other day at Bass Pro, for like $37/20, but I think it was Hornady Superformance, so thats expensive any time.

I saw a bunch of steel .380acp ball ammo a few weeks ago.

So, talking to a guy at gun counter, he mentioned, its not just scalpers, people are buying random stuff, in hopes they can trade it for what they need. Which probably is gonna leave people stuck with cases of stuff they can't shoot, and is basically off the market.

That sounds better. The last time that I priced .223 it was over a buck a round for some knockoff brand.

In my area, I can find ammo but it is not what I really want and the price well over double in a year.

Our local gun shop usually has most ammo and the owners won’t let folks come clean them out. You can usually get a brick of 22’s but he won’t sell you ten. Much appreciated.

How long is brass ammo good for, without special storage arrangements?

I remember firing old 12 gauge shells that worked like some of the ones in the Mad Max movies. Funny, when you are just playin. Hear the shot run out the bbl.

If it ever came down to that, I would just make black powder like when I was twelve and build a blunderbust! Lot of good, though against a drone strike or directed energy weapon! Maybe chemical attack too.

I have a bunch of 12 gauge paper shells which were my grandfathers. So far I haven't dared firing them, but looking at my shotshell supply I might be getting desperate enough to try them soon.

I’d bet a little poof and the shot rolls out the barrel.
