No doubt a near death experience puts things in a different perspective, Rich. In the same way, as I get older and more experienced, I find myself less tolerant of ignorant people doing things that experience has shown me are unwise, especially when those actions negatively impact my quality of life and waste my time. The icing on the cake is when those folks won't listen when advised as to how they can avoid those problems in the future. One of the nicest things about being retired is being able, in some situations at least, to just turn my back on 'em a and let 'em stew in their own juice.😇
I have been getting less tolerant of stupid for a while. But since returning to work after the Covid experience....the tolerance is near zero, which isn’t good when answering tech calls or dealing with co-workers who just don’t grasp it. Other people are noticing it.... And I don’t even try to sugar coat my responses or be diplomatic about it.

potato plants can sure look nasty. First you likely freeze them and they look awful like you just know you've killed them. But sure enough in two weeks the green is poking back through the rotted guck on top. And then we have to wait until they look extra nasty/mostly dead until we dig the potatoes. But there is a short time when lines of taters are in bloom that they too can strut their stuff. My understanding is when the blooms come out the potato is starting to form.

I haven't met them yet but my next door neighbor has two young kids who play outside a lot and I'm thinking maybe beginning of July they
might like to dig up some potatoes. Most folks have never done it and it's really fun.

finished making a batch of blueberry muffins. Waiting for them to cool off to have a final cup of coffee and a warm muffin.
When I was growing up in northern Vermont my Grandfather always grew a lot of potatoes. But he grew them in mounds of hay and straw on top of fertile soil so come harvest time we never "dug" potatoes, rather we just "pulled" potatoes.
/edit-
sort of like My Potatoes-in Straw Growing Experiment – Kevin Lee Jacobs
One of the advantages was that we didn't damage potatoes when digging.

Wunderground says 29 degrees, my weather station says 17 degrees, quite a difference.

Drew, I might be suspect of your temperature sensor. I showed a low here of 25.7 on the Davis and 25.8 on the Tempest, both recorded at 6:48 am.

good morning all. Bet there are a lot of folks sleeping in this morning.

warmer day today, says 27 out now which is close to what wunderground says, going up to mid 50s today in warming trend.
yes, temp sensor is a issue, not sure why it would show colder than normal.

landlord coming over this morning to pick out some flowers I grew and I will send her home with a tray of blueberry muffins.
She's spending a lot of money fixing up this cottage and I'm trying to keep her happy, which seems to be working.

This afternoon I pull off the freeze covers on the garden and see if anything survived. It's not just the freezing, don't think the ground is warm
enough for little plants to do well. Good thing I only planted part of my supply.

Hope you all have a nice weekend and a lovely Easter.

22° this morning, wow. That’s what I get for living on the edges of three creek basins. 26 in town and 23 at the airport. 63 later I’m told then apparently no more freezes through the 17, we will see after that.

We haven’t decided if we are going to church tonight or brave Son-rise service at 6:30 tomorrow. I don’t handle the cold like I use to since I started blood thinners.

I’ve got to get the deck on the tractor soon the weeds and grass are taking over. I’ve got to spray the clam shells in the driveway and turnouts and the white stone around the house, grass is poking through. Not likely today, but soon.

I have to get moving.
Have a good day.

Good morning folks

21 now highs around 50 and sunny with winds NW at 10 to 15 mph. Fire danger warnings have started for the season. Unfortunately many seem to ignore them and burn anyway.

...RED FLAG WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 9 AM THIS MORNING TO 7 PM EDT THIS EVENING FOR CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS FOR CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN NEW HAMPSHIRE...

It’s been a slow week as I tweaked my back again but immediately hit the rest button instead of the usual trying to work through it. I feel pretty good today.

Not much planned for today just a dump run and more rest.

Going to see my sisters tomorrow for a small brunch. We are all fully vaccinated and haven’t seen each other in person for about a year. I’m looking forward to seeing them.

Happy Easter tomorrow

Stay safe and healthy
Enjoy your day everyone

Isn’t it great to get to hug your family again? I missed that.

as a child my family occasionally went to Easter sun rise service at the base of Bowman's Hill Tower. I've mentioned this place before but for those not from these parts it's a little
bit of our country's history, since when looking South one sees Trenton in the far distance and Washington Crossing
just South of this area. When one looks North, there is our farm at the middle top, our old stone home knocked down and turned into a garage/apt
and then a 12k sf Tara built nearby. Easy to see in the last picture. At least parts of the original orchard is still there, some very old apple trees by now.

climbing up the circular stairs inside this tower is not for the faint of heart or fear of heights. I could never look over the edge but loved the long range views.
And was always glad to get back down on the ground...

hope this posts ok

. . . . but see something coming mid to late April
Buppies the question is: Will it bring freezing temps to Texas? We just got by without our usual Easter freeze with less than a degree to spare.

Good morning! 53˚F, cloudy heading to the 60s. We start hitting the mid 90s next week so I need to enjoy the cool weather.
I told mom I'd make her an Easter lunch that she has never had before - Heart of Palm patties. (A.K.A. veggie crab cakes)

There is also another recipe I will modify to all plant based and no oil, it's the orange bunny rolls.
I'll be using whole wheat sourdough and orange marmalade. The trick is getting the ears right.

The Bowman's pics look good here.

Good Morning
26 and going to 62 today with clear skies and mild winds.
Quite a contrast from yesterday when there was a frigid north wind all day making it unpleasant outside.

Drew, today your temperature reading is right in line, any idea why it was low yesterday? Both my Davis and Tempest are on Weather Underground.

Trip to Washington, PA went smoothly and quickly yesterday. The aforementioned winds made the landings interesting, but that’s part of the fun.
Dinner with the family was great. Strip steaks, broccoli, Brussel sprouts, broiled steak fries, and home made bread. Flourless chocolate tort with fresh raspberries an vanilla ice cream for desert. All at the request of the birthday girl.
Got some quality time with the grandson, he is always happy and entertaining. He turns one in a couple of weeks.
And I even made some progress in the wood shop.
A great day overall.

Today I have to make some room in the shop for my wife to skirt some alpaca fleece from last years shearing, as shearing time this year will be here soon.
I’m also going to take a ride to a friend’s place to survey his drainage and set some grade stakes so he can direct surface sheet flow away from his basement entrance steps.
Then hopefully back to the shop.
