Good Morning!!!! 51F @ 5"30AM. Sunny to partly cloudy. High 78F. Winds SW at 5 to 10 mph.
Recent test results show that the dryness in forest fuels is reaching record levels for this time of year, another bad omen for the upcoming fire season. Heck, the fire season has already started, with two or three call outs a day.
The pond is looking great, Paul. Must be nice to be able to try out boats in your back yard!
Not again, Ted! Hope you get some good news on Thursday.
Turns out the milkshake stuff coming out of the side-by-side tank was hydraulic fluid for the power steering. I made the mistake of thinking it was antifreeze for the cooling system, and flushed it out with the garden hose. What a mess! Got most of it cleaned up off the driveway with a wide putty knife and a dose of Gunk. I'll use muratic acid on the rust stains from the radiator today. Gonna just refill the power steering reservoir with UDT and see how that goes.
Spent the rest of the day watching the FEL arms on the
M62 going up and down, trying once again to adjust the auto-leveling feature. All I can say is it doesn't work very well. The amount of correction is proportional to the speed at which the loader arms are raised or lowered. So it's impossible to find one setting of the proportioning valves that works under all conditions. The best I could do is set it so no matter how fast the arms move, the pallet forks never end up tipping down, which would cause the load to slip off. I think most of the time I'll just leave that feature off.
Back to bucking and burning today.
