Y'all Been Checkin' Lumber Prices?

Wow! Wow! I wonder at what price people will stop buying?

Don't know, but I work for a company called C.M. Tucker Lumber. We manufacture, treat, and ship most of Lowe's treated items along the East coast. We continue to be busier than ever. I think the past year we were up something like 15% overall from the previous year. So far this year is no different. We can't possibly work enough hours to keep up. We treat 3 plants 24/7.

According to this article in the National Association of Homebuilders February Home Sales Down on Rising Material Costs, Interest Rates | NAHB Now | The News Blog of the National Association of Home Builders current lumber prices add about $24,000 to the cost of a new home. As has been pointed out though, that isn't all going into the sawmill's pockets. Like everybody else they also have higher labor costs, the price of fuel is creeping up, and other variables. Here in Maine the minimum wage has gone up at least a buck every year since 2017-currently at 12.15$/hr, and prices have gone up accordingly. Now there's talk of increasing it to 16.00$/hr.

And our government still says there's no inflation going on. I'd be hard pressed to name a product that hasn't gone up in the last 6 months.

I have run into a few neighbors/acquaintances that are oblivious to the high lumber prices. They just buy what they need when they need it, and have no idea prices are sky high right now compared to normal times. This is about the worst time to embark on unnecessary projects but some folks don't know that.

I am pretty happy I got my sawmill up and running last year. My next challenge is to figure out how to process/treat wood for projects where I'd normally use pressure treated lumber. I have a trailer I need to re-deck and some outdoor stairs that need hand railings. The trailer deck can probably get painted with a diesel + used motor oil mix, but hand rails need something less hazardous to humans.

This is what I use for poles in the ground..... Copper Naphthenate 8% (68% by Volume) Concentrate (5 Gallon Jug)
You can mix it with diesel or mineral spirits to dilute it.

For extra protection, I put the poles in these...........https://www.plastisleeve.com/plasti-sleeve/
I bought the 6x6 ones for my sawmill shed and fixin to use the 4x4 sleeves for a carport.
hugs, Brandi

It's amazing how fast the prices have increased since the change in January.
People are able to get back to work and travel for recreation, use their boats and other equipment. Demand is going up as a result. Prices rise with demand.
