Or,

Or how about,

Sure

Those were the 2 I remember from when I drove for them (for a whopping 2 months) in the early 90's. Didn't take me long to figure out they were not the company I wanted to work for.

Yeah the Slow Wagon In Fast Traffic comes from when they were governed at 55. The states told them that was a no go as speed limits went up.

They were a 55 fleet when I drove for them. The trucks weren't "governed", but every one of them had a "taddle box" in them that monitored your truck, and you were required to plug in at your next Swift terminal, so it could download your average speed, max speed, idle time, etc. And if you had too much idle time (sitting with the engine idling so you could have heat or A/C while sleeping in the sleeper for example) OR if you had much "over 55" time, you got in trouble for it. They also docked your pay (removed part of your "bonus") for these things. It wasn't the reason I left quickly, but it didn't help matters. The crappy unsafe equipment fleet and the absolute GARBAGE way they treated their drivers were the main reasons I left.

The company i work for governs the trucks at 68 or the highest speed limits they travel in. Any that go to Utah are set at 80. Here in Washington we have a 60 truck limit so 68 is good. They won't stop you for that.

Remember, surge brakes have a threshold for activation, not just *any* differential between the tow vehicle and trailer. That border case is a *****.
You do know the theory... ;)

I sympathize, but I view it as that much more punishment for tailgaters, like one that hit-n-run me at a light when I didn't launch as quickly as he expected. Definitely punched a hole in his radiator with my hitch...

Yeah I leave mine in as a Prius catcher.

I don’t want any small cars getting lodged under my rear bumper or hitting my rear axle.

Put a nice Class 5 receiver drop hitch on the hitch box and be happy. No way can some econo box car do any damage and certainly not get to your axle.

ning, blee03, and 5030, don't get overconfident. A Dodge Colt rear-ended my 2500 PU. My naked 2-1/2" receiver was unscathed despite crippling the Colt, but the Colt managed to dent the tailpipe extension.

Personally, I wish everyone would take the hitch out of the receiver if not towing something. I ran into one in a dark parking lot a few years ago and damn near broke my leg. It was sticking out over a foot from the receiver. I could show you the scar it left. I've seen other people walk into them too.

Is it really that big of a deal to take a few seconds and pull it out and toss it into the back of the truck or trunk of the car? Just be a little considerate for other people.
Next time you're out and about just look around at the smaller cars and how many have the "hitch mark" on their bumper grill from playing bumpercar parallel parking. It's crazy how many people parallels park by Braille.

Yeah I learned my lesson that day. After looking at the pool of coolant that the guy had left behind (I felt an impact, stopped pretty much on the crosswalk, to look for damage - it was a quiet day and no other cars were around, which is funny, because tailgator could've been in the adjacent lane), I did find that the chrome on the hitch ball was marred 😢
