I've enjoyed reading this thread, as there are similarities with my situation, but on a slightly bigger scale.
For many years, I was able to do most tasks with my 47hp tractor, but it became increasingly frustrating having to continually change gears going up-slope with the 180cm (6 ft) slasher/rotary cutter. Sure, I could have bought a smaller slasher, and set aside more time to do the job each time, but with 25 acres to mow, I didn't much like that option.
Couple that with my air-blast sprayer, and just powering the fan used up over 20 PTO hp. And the chipper was limited somewhat by the available PTO hp. As I said, all this stuff was do-able, but...
The new 76hp tractor solved all those issues. Admittedly more than a 20% hp increase, and back in 2004 if the 55hp model had been available when I bought the 47hp machine, I think it would have done all I wanted.
As to trade in, vs private sale, my Kioti dealer freely admitted he'd have to "gut me" if he accepted the 47 as a trade, however he was more than happy for me to leave it on display on his lot, and even advertised it on his website! How many dealers would do that?
The new owner saw it on the website, and is now happy as the proverbial "pig in mud" with a machine which did around 100 hrs/yr and was always garaged, and I got a fair price to offset the cost of the new one. Win/win!
