I just did my spring re-mounting of the 60" cutting deck, something I only do once a year, and therefore kind of hard to get good at. This is of course the drive over deck, and in the ads they show it as being effortless, but it never is. I have two questions for the group.

1. Whenever I drive over the deck, that goes well, but then it never seems to want to latch properly. You're supposed to simply drive towards the deck, but unless it's on the grass, it just slides. On the grass, one side seems to catch, but the other is always a little off, and I have to get off and man-handle the thing until it catches. This is not the way it's supposed to be, and I'm wondering if others run into the same thing but have solved it.

2. Winter deck storage: my shed doesn't have sufficient room to store the plow and the deck stored flat, so I have to stand the deck up against the wall. Since I'm moving the disconnected deck with a sling, suspended from the bucket, it's always a little tricky to get it up against the wall and tied in place so it doesn't come right down again. Does anybody else have the same kind of deck storage issue and do you have any tips for making it easier? Thanks!

For the deck storage I bought a set of axles from here:

Kubota Stands

They have really helped my storage issues. There has been some discussion in the past about the gearbox leaking. Mine never has. They are a little pricey and you could make them yourself, but they are very well made and for me it was just easier to buy them.

My gearbox leaked a little, and I guess this is because it's vertical? Those stands look very interesting. They have no info on the site, I wonder what's involved in mounting them?

I'm actually considering putting my very expensive hydraulic plow rig up for sale. It does move a lot of snow, but when I tilt the blade, the main reason I bought it, it just won't plow flat and is kind of useless for my somewhat contoured, hilly driveway. I can do a much better job with the bucket believe it or not. The big plow would be ideal for someone with a big flat lot or long flat driveway though. If I sold it I could store the deck flat.

To mount the axles you remove your wheels. The axles have wheels pinned on each end. You take off one of those wheels and slide it in. There are holes in the center of the axle to lock them in place. It uses the same pin you pulled to remove your anti scalp wheel.

I see. So you have to take these wheels on and off as part of the spring/fall routine then, correct? Thanks Doug.

That is correct. The wheels do allow you to move the deck around while it is standing up. The instructions to tell you to chain it to the wall for safety, but I never do.

I guess you must have the only drive over deck. Is it always the same side that doesn't latch?

In fact, yes, it's always the left side. I don't see any difference there in terms of height or alignment. One idea I had is that perhaps it's getting hung up and if I shot it with some spray lithium grease it might slide in and latch more easily. That is, if I remember that a year from now! ;)
