Determining a "junker trucks" worth at junkyard

I was lucky with my daughter's early driving. Her one and only accident was sideswiping our mailbox turning out of the driveway... The whole side was gouged and creased from front to back (I have a substantial mailbox and post).
Our local parts junkyard used to do $300 delivered for most anything, now they're offering $200. I kept an old F150 for several years after I bought a new truck. Sheet metal was all good, 100k miles, and no AC. When it broke down on my wife (burned out clutch) I sold it to the tow truck driver when he towed it to my house for $500.

Many of the junk yard here are also auto scrap yards. Once a car is parted out to the point of being useless, it's flattened and stacked to be sold for scrap.

If a salvage yard won't buy it from you, try a scrap yard. I'd bet you get $250-300 for it.

I dunno. A neighbor of mine does auto repair and has a small junkyard. He'll keep one junk car next to his shop and toss all his scrap metal (brake rotors, mufflers, etc.) in it, when it's full he'll haul it to the scrap dealer. He says he's lucky to get $150, and that's with all that extra weight inside. Maybe prices are higher where you live.

I helped a buddy get rid of a Mercury Sable 4 years ago. It ran, was intact, no major damage, interior was "ok", all there but not "nice", and all 4 tires held air. It had a check engine light on and I think it used to overheat if run in stop and go traffic (going off memory). I think it had a dead battery, and I also think it had exhaust missing/leak?

Anyway, the only yard in the area that would even take it would not give ANY money for it. They would just take it, and that was if we delivered it, and only if it had a title. We hauled it down on my car trailer. I remember driving it up onto the trailer, but I think we just pushed it off in the scrap yard.

Like I said before, last year we sent our 1/2 ton chevy 4x4 to the scrapper. If I'd have left the engine, transmission and transfer case in it, he'd have given me around $300. Since I took those out, he gave me $75. I was happy to have it gone. We went to dinner that night. :p

Things are obviously different in different areas but around here 90s model Chevy parts are an easy sale. I could probably get $500 for a running 350 more if it’s a 454, $300 for the trans maybe more if it’s anything special, $200 for the transfer case 2-300 for the front diff, couple hundred for the back axel and if the frame isn’t bent another couple hundred and a hundred or so to scrap the rest. I parted out a not wreaked one a while back and got around $3,000 and kept the motor.

Picked up the check today, $300, for future reference.

My wife wanted it gone, good enough for me.
That should just about cover your time and aggravation...

Well, its done, and you got more for it than many predicted. Yes you could likely have gotten more if you had parted it out or restored it, but having a happy wife and washing the hands of some situations can be its own reward.

I wrecked two nice cars as a 17-18 yo. Dad fixed em' up for me. He took his front end loader, dug two big holes and buried them in the back lawn.

Good to get $300 and forget it,
