Determining a "junker trucks" worth at junkyard

I am so glad our daughter is in her 40's now. Yes we went thru the car at 16 thing. I lost about $2500. Down the drain in about a month. Wrecked and taken partially apart by her and her worthless criminal boyfriend in my side yard to make a "race car" out of it. They eventually hauled it off for scrap. I learned my lesson, she learned her lesson and that was the last car I helped with. Whew!, I am so glad that is all over. She has several nice nearly new cars and trucks now. But she makes good money and can afford them.

Best way I could put it is the truck would of been great to drive on our own property as a "farm truck", but it would not have been my choice for a main vehicle for transportation driving to and from work for numerous reasons, gas mileage alone taking all the other variables out (something my son couldn't comprehend since all he wanted was a truck and he was blinded to all other realities).

Oh, yes, it does, and brings up a lot of old bad memories.

We are holding out hope, but this incident still hasn't seemed to sink in yet with him.

I told my wife, if he can still drive under our insurance after we sort this out (why honestly we want the totaled truck out of the equation), I'm buying a vehicle tracker for the family car when he can drive it

However, is that being a helicopter parent or just using common sense?

Thing is, my parents didn't have the option of a vehicle tracker nor ever owned a computer when I grew up.

I've got an old Toyota pickup that has a blown engine that's been sitting and I am going to rent a large dumpster and push it inside and then fill it up from my metal junk pile.
Few years ago it cost me around 275 to rent the largest for 5 days and they even send me a check from what I made on metal at the junkyard.

I don't know the market, but I can't help but assume there is a difference between a scrap yard for metal and a junkyard for parts.

Yeah, went thru that. It wasn't until about age 25 when things started to really gel. Of course it's different for different people. No guarantee that at age 25 they will grow a brain, but most do and some even earlier. Of course there is always the cases where they never grow up. So good luck.

I'm not cool now that I have a house and land payment, married with two sons and my father living with us, but back in the day, I thought I wasn't totally uncool (I didn't get married until I was in my late 30's, so I had a lot of experience doing stupid stuff, but I never got busted for it most of the time and most of it was legal LOL).

The kid really has no clue what I did from 16 to 38, and my dad generally keeps his mouth shut.

I've totaled a car in my youth, but I wasn't proud of it nor did I make a big deal about it.

Yep, I did the same. But in reference to the teenager issue, it usually gets better, and hopefully sooner than later.

He and you may not have any interest in this, but the Military can be the answer to young people growing up in a hurry. At least for some.
