If I greased every time I filled up - I'd look like the Tar Baby. I have a battery powered DeWalt grease gun. It's never blown the balls out of any zerks. I do have ONE zerk that is unusual. I must start the tractor and curl the grapple. Then the zerk will accept grease.
Old guys like us, certainly do appreciate our battery powered (DeWalt) grease guns!

I have read about other TBNers having grease harden in their equipment and preventing them to push more in. I have not had that issue yet so I read about it. It seems when the oil in the grease separates from the thickeners you start having the blockage problems. That could be from heat, pressure, mixing products, too much grease, etc. I found a good article that talks about the issue;

Grease Dry-out: Causes, Effects and Remedies.

In my opinion, if the grease is drying up, it's probably because it's not being grease frequently enough.

When I traded my tractor in, I told the sales guy that I never pressure washed it. I also told him that all the zerks worked and were often greased. He said he would rather see greasy pivots than dry ones.

I even check everything and grease things when they haven't been used. My FEL and snowblower have been sitting for over a month. I look at them at least weekly, look at the old grease that I've pushed out because (I believe) that this will start drying up before the grease that's inside. If the heat has made the grease on the inside run away then I likely need more on the inside. Make sure that everything I can move still seems to be moving freely, like my PTO shaft. I always take the grease gun with me and every 2 to 4 weeks I give everything another squeeze even if it doesn't look like it needs it.

I've always been a person that greases often, and some would say too much, but I've never believed that there was such a thing as too much grease. I've read several horror stories here on TBN about dried up grease and they've served to make leery of letting anything sit and ignoring it for any length of time.

The reason the previous owner gummed up the grease ports (when he did grease it which was obviously infrequently is, he used cheap clay based grease that hardens after a while. Use a good synthetic grease about every 10 operating hours and you'll be fine.
I use this stuff:

That will work. Just stay away from the cheap Tractor Supply bargain grease. It's all clay based.

I grease a lot myself, mostly because the grease rubs off my hay tools in the field. One thing in my loaders, I just grease until I can see fresh grease in the joint and no more. Good grease is hard to get off parts and your hands too.

I use Lubrication Engineers synthetic grease and I buy it in 150 pound drums. I have an air greaser and fill my hand guns with it too.

You may be surprised.
The local Kubota shop (pretty good sized one that serves a fairly large area) had 8x1 & 10x1 zerks and plenty of attitude but no 8x1.25 that I was actually looking for.
Just for the heck of it, while I was shopping for other stuff I checked around in my little town of 2,880 people for 8 X 1.25 metric zerks. 3 stores had a full range of metric zerks, The auto parts dealer, the Mahindra/Case tractor store, and a farm supply store. However two of the stores only sold them as part of a box of 50 or so assorted metric zerks for around $40 to $70. I could buy them singly at the auto parts store (NAPA) if I needed just one.
We may not have a decent place to eat our town, but we do have 8 X 1.25 metric zerks. These small farm towns have their priorities :)
