Ram connection manifold?

Hi guys, new here. I recently acquired 2 of these rams. I dont know what they came off or what they were used for.

My plan with them is to build a couple of hydraulic presses. The problem I have is it appears to require a manifold or some type of housing to accept hose connections. My thought is to just drill n tap a thicker plate and bolt it to each one. I thought about just tapping the holes that are here now but Im worried there isnt enough "meat" to put enough threads in the holes to withstand the pressure.

I cant find any info about these online at all with any of the markings. Has anyone seen these before or know where/what kind of manifold I could get?

I would make an adapter plate with the threaded ports in it.

Where both ports of the cylinder go to the base, I wonder if it wasn't for a counter balance valve? Purpose of which is to prevent free-falling of the cylinder should a hose break. It won't allow oil flow unless the opposing port sees pressure to open it...just guessing tho LOL.
Don't think I'd drill and tap the ports as they seem kind thin. I'd make a plate to use the 4 mounting holes, only hard part is going to be machining the O ring grooves.
Another option would be to weld a >>hydraulic<< coupling or whatever type of fitting you want over the port, just don't use a plumbing fitting....Mike

They look like the pilot operated double acting cylinders that came off of a JH Fletcher roof
bolter and they will not work for a press as the pilot operated flow control valve blocks use a
matched machined surface block with the Boss blue dot O rings that seal the pilot operated
valve to the cylinders mounting plate

For the work involved to make use of them buying a single hydraulic press will cost you less
money and work.

I'm with oldnslo. Just make or have a machine shop make a new plate with the ports you need and just bolts it place with the o-rings. It will work just fine.

I don't see any valving on that cylinder that would cause any issues. I'm sure there was some sort of valve attached to that, but it was removed. So now it's a simple double acting cylinder with the two ports close together.

I agree with Oldnslo. I make port blocks all the time to test rebuilt cylinders without the lock valves.

Yep we decided to machine a couplr of manifold blocks with the correct hole sizes for half inch NPT threads.

Why not just drill and tap the cylinder?..or the block that currently on that cylinder? Looks to be plenty of meat and by making a block your really not adding any function.

A flat plate with 2 holes drilled and tapped, then a space machined in for orings to seal it should work fine.
May not be cheaper than 2 new cylinders from Surplus Center if you have to pay for machining but that all depends on your available resources (ie: if you can machine it, or have a buddy who will machine it for cheap).
