Started working on my finish mower today. I decided to paint it as there was corrosion starting especially under the deck.

The plan is painting the deck Massey red and the gearbox/ mounting plate Massey gray. I might paint the hitch brackets Massey gray or black I haven’t decided.

The pulleys and swivel assemblies will be black and the wheels silver.

Today I replaced a missing baffle and painted the underside to help slow/stop the corrosion. I chose white to make it easier to see while working under there in the future.

I think white under the deck is a good idea. Looking forward to seeing how the top turns out.

My thoughts on the white were:
- Cheap/easy match
- provides good light when working under it
- Will show trouble and dirt sooner/easier.

Update!

Current pricey casualty list:
- anti scalp roller
- blade spindles

Lots of little issues but nothing terminal.

Switched to Oregon gator G5 blades. Saw an improvement in cut and less hp loss with a 6’ Wood rd7200.

Got a part number on those blades?

Also figured out axles and wheels bushings were shot.

Fortunately replacement bushings are available for $30 on Amazon and includes enough to do all 4 wheels.

Axles were cheap through Rural King.(3/4x5 bolts with a very short thread and long grip)

591-585. Blades have three holes. My blades mount using two bolts to the spindle.

Had a hard time with caster wheel spindles bending and wear. Scut 4x4 in rough terrain and lots of back and forth maneuvering. Changed to 3500# axle bearings, spindles and hubs. At the the time 1/3 of cost of OEM parts. Did require some fabrication and welding. Been trouble free ever since.
