We've had west nile virus here for quite a while now.

The DNR website says "All birds have tested negative for avian influenza and West Nile virus." so apparently West Nile isn't the Indiana problem?

Our birds are doing great. They require a refill of the feeders every 2 days. They also have access to 2 baths and a water fountain with splashing water.

My wife feeds them the good stuff. It can get a tad costly keeping these flying beasts fed. More than it costs to feed the kitty!

But, the birds do keep the kitty’s attention as he watches their antics from the screen porch.

Sorry to hear there are problems elsewhere.

Hopefully the DNR/partners will figure out the true problem/remedy quickly. It's sad to watch the birds desperately digging in the ground for food under where the feeders were located.

Probably unrelated, but last year we had tons of Oriels, probably 10-12 pairs. This year we only had one or two pairs. Overall our bird population is way off this year. Less of every type including Gold Finches, Hummingbirds, Oriels, Blue Birds, Grosbeaks, Indigo Buntings, Cardinals, you name it and there are less of them.

Maybe they are up here as we have a good batch of those birds. We haven't fed birds in the warm months for many years now and they do just fine. We do provide a good natural habitat for them but we do offer clean water for the critters.
