The DNR website says "All birds have tested negative for avian influenza and West Nile virus." so apparently West Nile isn't the Indiana problem? We've had west nile virus here for quite a while now.

Hopefully the DNR/partners will figure out the true problem/remedy quickly. Not in this batch of bird deaths.
You know this how?chinese bird seed. Same as their dog food.
Maybe they are up here as we have a good batch of those birds. We haven't fed birds in the warm months for many years now and they do just fine. We do provide a good natural habitat for them but we do offer clean water for the critters.Probably unrelated, but last year we had tons of Oriels, probably 10-12 pairs. This year we only had one or two pairs. Overall our bird population is way off this year. Less of every type including Gold Finches, Hummingbirds, Oriels, Blue Birds, Grosbeaks, Indigo Buntings, Cardinals, you name it and there are less of them.
