Yep, it is a sansevieria but there are over 70 varieties.

We have several varieties, but only one like this one. we bought it over 20 years ago and this is the first time it bloomed. And the flower is different than any of the other ones we have.

This is what the flower looks like in the morning:

The snake plants that I've seen blooming don't get that showy of a flower...

it sort of looks like a "white spider lily"...but not exactly...may be in similar family?

My mom had dozens of those when I was growing up. I've had them as well. However, I've never seen one bloom in all those years. Very interesting.

I've had at least one since the mid 70s, and I've never seen it bloom either.
Never heard it called mother in law tongue, always snake plant.

Here is a picture of what we have. Not sure that it is the same as the OP's. Wife said we got it back in the 70's. Ours has small, prickly spikes along the green leaves/stems. Does not flower very often, but when it does it an orange isg/red flower. No picture of the flower though. Jon

Have no idea what it is called but I'd guess that it is a weed from somewhere on this planet.

Could very well be. I always heard it called the ugly plant by my mother. But succulent seems to fit the bill. Thanks. Jon
