I've had a scope stuck up the other side on several occasions... something I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy.

Oh I've had the scope a few times...but I was asleep so ok. I just hope they wash the hose

Oh, trust me, ALL of those options have been discussed,,
the land owner is old, and does not need $$$,, he needs his peace, and quiet.

The real issue came from 20 years ago, when he let people access the water,,
EVERY Monday morning,, he had a pickup full of trash left behind to deal with.

You only pick up so many OP's beer cans,,,

Grandad had his lake built 1954...I was a toddler. He let people fish, then picnic, soon there would be a mob there! Trash everywhere. Last straw was me stepping on a broken bottle (lucky he was a doctor).
People will abuse privileges.

You can find numerous collaborating reports.
Two things happen that promote this delusion: The news media overhypes crime (as well as everything else), and politicians use the delusion that crime is drastically rising as a campaign tool to get elected. And it works! This delusion also helps promotes hate and mistrust amongst the general public.

First, I don’t trust anything from Wikipedia. Second, I quickly skimmed their “facts” and noticed most of their statistics are very outdated. Many graphs are as old as 10-15 years ago.
Recently, Murder rates are really bad right now. In Philadelphia and Chicago, records are being set. Philly already has like 300 homicides.
So yeah, crime is BAD right now.

What I was trying to convey (and I did a bad job) is that crime was lower 100+ years ago when they had a quickly enforced death penalty and public executions.

I wasn't. The first time wasn't so bad, I was able to watch what was going on and asked so many questions that he finally suggested I wait until he was done. Plus the nurse was cute and friendly...
The next two time though, weren't much fun.

Virginia water rights get discussed EVERY year,, at this time of the year, in New Castle VA,,
There is this REAL nice kayak creek,, but the guy that owns the land really does not want anyone parking on his property while they are traipsing off to the creek,,
The road is state, but, too narrow to park along,, so,, the issue comes up,
again, and Again,, AND AGAIN,, AND AGAIN!!

If it were a good whitewater creek and put ins and take outs become an issue with private residences, I'm surprised that the American Whitewater Association hasn't become involved yet.

Edit, after looking, assuming this is John's creek? Never really paddled Virginia at all, but the AWA does have a notice to stay off the creek until further notice.

I have found that whitewater enthusiasts, like hunting enthusiasts (or any outdoor enthusiasts for that matter) are great conservationists who understand that natural resources are limited and you have to practice great stewardship.

If your end destination is marked no tresspassing, you don't tresspass and work for a new entry point. At the end of the day, given time, if you keep breaking the law, you're only going to lose your cause and give your sport a black eye for not being respectful of others, particularly those who own private land.

I wish that more people understood that. Up here the Maine Snowmobile Association has spent decades working with landowners to build up a trail system. Other outdoor recreationists, not so much.
