For several years I had a small problem here. There is a map company - Metsker - in Seattle. They, for ukn reasons - showed my driveway on the Spokane Co. map as a public road.

This led to some interesting discussions. Finally, after several years, their updated Spokane Co map dropped my driveway. My neighbors still think it was funny.

For the State of WA - Metsker makes the most accurate maps around. If you need ultra accuracy - you purchase their county maps. Now that my driveway is deleted.

I still have a 1939 Metsker of Spokane Co. Amazing how the road system has changed. Amazing, also, the small "grain towns" back then, that are long gone now.

Old maps are treasures.

We often still consult old Sanborn Fire maps of some cities for history of buildings and parcels in some towns.

The Lehigh gorge state park is a great example of the state saying enough is enough. (In Pa.) rafters were shot at for floating through several hunting clubs land. The state said that’s that and made the entire run a state park on both sides of the river. I guided that river for years. You still see what’s left of the old canal used to ship coal. If this is not navigable water I don’t know what is. This is just down stream from the attached court case from haydude I think.

I canoed that stretch way back around 1978; I was 19 and didn't know any better. Man, they could've filmed Deliverance in that gorge...

People 80 years from now will be saying the same about some of today’s small towns... most likely including where I live.
There was one nearby town 80 years ago which still only had water or RR access. I always wanted to go visit the site; for a few years it was a town we managed. Now it’s owned by a German company with gates and no trespassing signs... oh well.

I've read that the reason they chose purple is that it's the only color that even color blind people can identify. I don't believe it means that they truly see purple, but it's a color that they can consistently identify from other colors.

I wondered about that. OTOH about 30 years ago, long before people used it for posting; I had a land surveyor show me a purple chip he'd taken out of a tree and asked if it was paint... he's color blind and couldn't tell. (it was.)

We have a popular canoeing floating river that goes right through land I farm in several spots in my hometown. We had a scene play out in real life worse than deliverance.
The Johnston theft gang (see movie “At Close Range” starring Sean Penn, has popular Madonna song). Anyway, when the son turned states evidence on the father, Bruce Johnston, all heck broke lose and the father killed several of the family members and dumped the bodies along the river in a very sparsely populated area in my hometown, where there’s like ZERO crime.
I walked where the bodies were found many times as a kid and then later as a farmer. Remember seeing the FBI helicopters and a bazillion state cops tromping all over.

Yep! As a kid we watched phili fall apart as every night (almost) another Phili mobster got killed in a very public place that my dad would think nothing of walking through. (How I wish I didn’t know know what my dad never knew).
