Top Dressing Driveway - Gravel or Crushed Concrete

Another (n) for crushed concrete. Its got wire in it and IMO, doesn’t look as nice as granite of limestone. I did asphalt grindings for a customer last summer and it looked great.
My rock guy won't deliver crushed or recycled concrete any more. He delivered one load that had metal in it. I *assume* from his comments about the RC that he was the one that paid for a bunch of repairs to tires cut or punctured by the metal.

Funny, I actually did a driveway today that was crushed concrete 10 years ago. I top coated it with 60 tons of asphalt millings about 3” thick and rolled it with a 5000lb vibratory roller.
Like the recycled asphalt millings!

Yeah, after my experience (being told the same thing about screening and magnets) I don't like it anymore. I removed two full 5-gal buckets of rebar/remesh scraps and this was only about 400' of driveway. Not worth the cost savings in my opinion, and it doesn't look as nice or compact as well as a proper crusher run.

I have 40 yds. of white Quahog shells on my (291 year old) house 1/2 circle driveway, but I could sure use some of those nice asphalt millings on the driveway to my barns.

What is that surface like? I have wondered about getting crushed oyster shells for a walkway behind my house.

Ok, I have to ask... is this a location in MA? I've only heard people out of MA (east of Boston & the Cape) say "Quahog Shells" everyone else just says crushed sea shell driveway.... :)

I have a couple of clients out on the Cape & a few on the CT shore that have them... they are nice... but wouldn't ever work for our steep drive... but I really like the look...

It depends on what you like.
I don't care about having a smooth barefoot driveway, and it looks very nice in front of this ancient Cape Cod house.
I used 3/16" x 4" x 16' pieces of steel edging that I made myself, 20 years ago when I re-did the driveway.
I welded stubs of small angle iron on the back, and drove rebar through.
The edging is absolutely necessary (a clean look) if you want to keep the shells from migrating into the grass.

I just look for milling projects on local roads. They love to give them away. Cant get rid of them!
