It's the shaft from the clutch to the trans. The gears seem to shift and work solidly. The lockups occur regardless of gear selection, including neutral.

The problem here is the shaft is transmitting the sound so well I'm not sure I could identify it with a stethoscope. I'll just have to pull the shaft to narrow it down.
