Smoke in the air

Already 95 and very smoky here. Supposed to hit 101. Was going to go to lake, bit the smoke there is worse than here.

ugh, smoke along with high temps. Man i was so glad we put in mini split a couple years ago. Could close up the house and start up the aux air filters made it bearable last year. Otherwise you open up when it cools down to cool the house down and then your sitting in smoke.

When i built my house in 1996, everyone up here told me not to bother adding ac, as it never gets hot here.

that held true until about 10-12 years ago. Summers were just getting hotter. Never as hot and dry as it is now, but too hot for my liking. So i replaced my elect heat with propane heater and added a heat pump unit.

that system was a piece o cra*, so i replaced outdoor unit and inside coil set to be used with a straight ac compressor.

so much better. Better winter heat, better summer cool. And i can keep all the smoke smell out.

I have travel earlier this week to get to work across North Ontario it was early in the morning and I guess the atmospheric pressure and the lack of wind made the smoke sit on the ground and I tell ya it felt like a winter blizzard I couldn't see 300 feet in front of me my eyes where burning and the smell was awful so much I actually put my covid mask on while being alone in my car lol

This morning the smoke is gone and it's sprinkling. Temps are at 72 but the lack of smoke is great. It was a bit dicey - turning on the fans last night. There were still traces of smoke. Hopefully the forecasters are correct and we won't be seeing such high temps today.

Stay safe out there.

There is more smoke the last couple of years and it isn't good for you;
Wildfires’ health impacts | Stanford News

I use an N95 mask or P100 respirator when it is smoky.

We had a sudden whiff of smoke last night around 7:30 that got us all wound up looking for the source. Our neighbors went looking for it too, but we didn't find anything. These dry season fires certainly make us twitchy.

All the best,

Peter

The thick haze that the twin cities had has moved down to us today.....worst I've ever seen.
