I hear you and respect your position. As an economist, I would say they are intertwined. Your food is an economic commodity and where economics exist, politics will soon follow. I will try to sidestep anything that may go further down that path.
Of cosure they are intertwined. I'd like to keep this thread about agriculture and upbeat, not politics.

Here is video cutting silage in Canistota South Dakota which we've passed through many times. This is my home state. This cutter has a 800+ hp engine.

Nice! I lived in SoDak for 13 of my 1st 22 years. Mom's family goes back to the territory days. Dad was USAF, so we moved a bit before he retired. Have family everywhere except the far NW part of the state.
Most of the corn we saw last week looked in good shape. Some was just starting to turn. I really miss the pheasant hunting...but not the snow.

How much fuel do you think that uses? People have no idea of how much fuel they hold, how much it costs and the amount needed to run that chopper?

My wife grew up in that same area. Her family had a farm outside of Plankinton, which they lost when she was 16. We go back there every couple years for a class reunion with, Harvey, her only classmate in the one room school house they both attended. Harvey's family lost their farm too. He worked at the Fort Randal dam until he retired.

That's the part which so many people don't realise. If farmers kept track of every hour and had to make minimum wage, food prices would be a lot higher. Yet those prices don't reflect costs of the "factory"... the land which the food is growing on.

I am a little familiar with some of the 9000 series Deeres and was surprised to learn they hold around 400 gallons. That's over a $1,200 fill-up when you're on "E".

Not sure how long that lasts but generally a tractor holds enough for a long day of work in the field. I think the biggest Deeres use 25-30-33 gallons an hour.
