HI,
At the end of last year we bought a new Kuhn EL53 rototiller because our old rototiller was too narrow and would not cover the width of the tractor tires. This spring I was all excited to use our new rototiller.
I followed the directions in the manual precisely as it was the first time I used it. After about 30 feet of rototilling the slip clutch started smoking like mad. There was nothing in the ground like a big rock or root so I read some more and talked to the dealer some more too.
As a result of that, I loosened up the bolts holding the slip clutch together so they would slip easily and put the rototiller in the soil and ran it for a couple of minutes. Then I tightened up the slip clutch bolts to the factory specs in the manual.
I put the rototiller in the dirt and this time got to 42 feet before it started smoking like mad. I made a little progress
. Unfortunately our beds are between 100 and 300 feet long so I cannot make it through even one of the short beds.
I have never had this experience with slip clutches before. I could just tighten up the bolts all the way and it would never slip. The only problem with that is when I hit a big rock or root, it will damage the rototiller.
Does anyone have any experience with the Kuhn slip clutch? Have you been able to make it work?
Does anyone have any suggestions other than take the rototiller back to the dealer and return it? Commiserations welcome
.
Regards and thank you,
..michael..
