Got to use my DIY diesel generator,

Here in northern Indiana a line of pretty violent storms went through the area around 1:00-1:30PM. Had lots of wind for 20-30 minutes and about an inch of rain over an hours. And the power went out. Seems like a big tree next to SR15 blew over onto the power lines on the other side of the road. After the power remained off for 45 minutes, I went down to the shop and lulled the genset up to the house with the BX, started it up, plugged in the power cord and set the control switch to the run position.
Went into the basement, turned the main breaker off, slid the interlock down and turned the generator breaker on. And there was light!
This was the first time for a real test of the unit, I had done a couple of tests with a couple of electric heaters, but it hadn't been hooked to the house so far.
It ran just fine until I noticed the neighbor's porch light was on around10:15PM, when I went down and switched back to normal power.
So it ran for a little over 8 hours and looked like it burned 2.5 gallons according to my dipstick. Oil level on the engine dipstick didn't move. The little Yanmar 3TNA-72UJ ran like a champ.
It carried the A/C and well pump with no problem, never a flicker. Voltage stayed right at 230-235 volts. I might have to bump the rpm up a tad, as with the A/C on, it dropped to 58.4Hz, about 3520 rpm.

Our Yanmar generator is 5700 watts
Didn't think we needed anything bigger
as our electric bill is $40 to $43 each
month Haven't had a need to run ours
yet!

Nobody's wishing for a power Outage, but it sure is comforting or rewarding, satisfying, you pick the "ing" you like but the first time you need your backup and everything works out the way that you planned is all of those.
Glad you had success and that's a great rig you built?!

is a gas tank have almost everything else.
Like the big tires makes it easier to move!

It's 10KW, Engine is a 3 cylinder 22 hp.

This one weighs around 550 lbs.
It is easy to move around, it only has about 30 lbs tongue weight.
The tank on mine is a 14 gallon race car fuel cell from summit racing. Was about $100 and comes with a level sender.

I had a similar engine; a mitsubishi 3 cyl 900cc, 22HP
I didn't have much luck using mine as a generator though, it would slow down too much under load. The governor wasn't nearly precise enough.
I could only use about 2kw of AC power. That was an alternator from a 5kw Honda generator, capacitor excited.
It also had 160A 12v alternators, and an Air-conditioning compressor. those functions worked fine.

Another generator I made was 10kw on a 1965 Mercedes OM636 motor. 35HP.
That one works flawlessly, RPM is amazingly stable. I can weld on it and everything.
It has a vacuum governor.

I just wanted to throw that out there for others who might want to give the idea a try.
Make sure the engine you choose is suitable.

Here is suitable engine, but you better bolt it down to a concrete base and build a shed around it!
