Starlink

Depending on your location it could take three days, how long it takes to ship or it could take 10-12 months. Some area's are reporting that when they signup, they get a message their area is full and may not receive a dish until sometime in 2023!!! I signed up in April and the message was I would get it "mid to late 2021". I'm still waiting.
The message I received after signing up with Starlink just said:

Starlink is targeting coverage in your area in mid to late 2021. Orders will be fulfilled on a first-come, first-served basis. You will be notified via email prior to shipment, and you will be charged the remainder of your balance 3 days after you receive your order notification email.

Not very specific but it does give me a general idea. At least I'm on the list.

Starlink doesn't offer much information on this but on average, how long does it take to get the dish & receiver after you first sign up?

I know this time frame varies by location but what has been your experience?
That's because there is no 'average'. It depends on what you mean by 'sign up'. Did you submit your e-mail to the beta program to be notified about updates and potential service offering? Did you pay $99 as a deposit to hold a spot on the list (which applies to a spot on the 'cell' that services your location, not broadly across all service area)? Or did you get an e-mail announcing that it was available for purchase in your area and you paid $499 + taxes and shipping for the full kit? If the latter, people have seen it take a few days to two weeks for it to be shipped out, plus actual shipping time. The other items all depend on your location and available spots in your cell as Starlink rolls things out.

Demand for Starlink may push wait times from the infamous "mid to late 2021" into 2023. 😢

Wireless tv antenna? i have not even started to look yet.

It would be nice if i could mount a battery powered or maybe solar wireless tv antenna for old fashioned over the air broadcasts.

i've got a metal hip roof and anywhere in the attic is bad news.

i'm not cutting a hole in the roof although, i've been thinking about running the cable up thru the roof via the plumbing vent i have yet to install.

Is there such a thing as a wireless tv antenna?
I have an antenna about 100 feet from the house. i connected a Silicon Dust ethernet tv tuner to it and did a ubiquity WiFi connection back to the house. My, not so smart, TV has a Nvidea Shield connected to it and i use that to watch over the air TV.

Just curious, how did you house the tuner? Anything special as far as heating/cooling?

As an aside, those of you who can get a cell signal but can't get Starlink yet, price per gig is dropping. I guess it's competition and that's a good thing if you ask me. We're getting 100 gigs per month for about 55$ now. That's a huge improvement over even the last year.

I don't know... I've been getting 300-500GB/mo for $25 for the last 4.5 years. But I guess I got lucky.

I have the tuner in a sealable plastic box. Box has two clips and a rubber seal. It is protected to a certain degree from the sun. The tuner, poe injector, and antenna amp have small power supplies that don't add much heat. Cold is not an issue in this part of western Washington state. But in short, no nothing special.
