i'm reading a book about European colonialism post columbus and why huge investment companies were far more successful than governments. It's about raising capitol and the associated benefits.

Nobody wants to pay taxes but, everyone is happy to invest.

Nobody wants to pay taxes but, everyone is happy to invest.

Well, frankly, when you look at history, and how "successful" various governments have been (if you can measure that in dollars), and how successful private enterprise CAN be, it's not terribly surprising, I suppose. The human being (I include myself) tends to be fairly selfish, and puts their money where it will do them the most good personally. Maybe this is why I shy away from socialist bents on policies, regulations and even just general tendencies.
