i think it's 18 inches but not sure. the teeth are separated and came that way from the factory. i think the teeth are removable?

funny, with the orange mud/clay we have down here, when i dig a trench, the bucket teeth leave their "footprint". reminds me of old fashioned custom plaster trim work in old houses.

Hydraulic thumb is definitely a great addition! Very hard to go back after using a machine with one. Well worth the investment on an extra valve, hoses and fittings.

Probably the best thing I did to my homemade backhoe. Turns out, it kinda works as hunting weapon as well. 🤣

I prefer the way your bucket teeth close.
Mine meet at the tips instead.

I'm glad I made it that way. It's great when pulling stumps and you want to pull those thin but really annoying roots as I can just pinch those between the thumb and bucket without actually just cutting them.

I obviously agree!

If I were to build it today, I would probably make longer tines and a way to make it more compact when fully retracted. It kinda gets in the way in some operations.

Can't beat the BH for placing landscape boulders!

Right! Its great for placing rocks.
I finally figured that if I keep pressure on the thumb while rotating the bucket out it will keep hold of the rock while I extend the boom&dipper. I would almost be able to gently set that rock of yours next to the wall and still keep the flat side down.

Used the backhoe today tore up some cedars
and mesquite using the thumb on the backhoe.
Just curl the bucket and tears the branches off.
I have the manual thumb. I need the exercise
so getting on and off the tractor don't bother me
Its a Yanmar product heavy metal will out last me.
Glad my bucket has bolt on teeth makes it easy
to change. If I had to do this with a shovel with all
the rocks large and small would probably take me
2 to 3 weeks just to go 50 feet! I still have more
trenches to do by the time I get done think I will have
about 150 water line in am adding a hydrant so will
have water outside in winter months. Next is to install a septic system. Think I'll use cement block
easy to make!

8" x 16" cement block for a cesspool / tank?
Not the best idea!

I built my first septic tank using 8X16 cement block
and that's over 35 years ago still working and no
problems and never pumped it either as solids dissolve thay's why we use yeast!
