I bought a Kioti CK3510SE tractor a couple months ago. It has a cab, and it has a bucket on the front and a bush hog on the back. I've only put eight hours on the tractor so far, and prior to buying this tractor I'd never operated a tractor, so obviously I have a lot to learn.

After bush hogging for a couple hours yesterday, I wanted to pick up some dead tree branches from the ground and put them in the bucket. I stopped the tractor, put the gearshift in neutral, and engaged the parking brake. Then when I stood up to climb out of the tractor, the engine stopped running. I know there is a kill switch that stops the engine if the operator gets out of the seat when the tractor is in an "unsafe" configuration, and so I thought I must have forgotten to do something I was supposed to do before getting out of the tractor. However, I have not been able to figure out what I did wrong, and I can't start the engine.

The dome light works, and the icons light up when I turn the key, so it appears the battery is fine.

There is no buzzing or clicking when I try to start the engine. There is no sound at all.

If anybody can provide a hint that will point me in the right direction for solving this problem, I'd really appreciate it.

Congrats on your new tractor!
Did you disengage the PTO? Tractors generally will not start if the PTO is engaged.

Thank you for the congrats.

The PTO was disengaged before I parked the tractor and got up from the seat. At least, I'm 99% certain it was disengaged. I'd been bush hogging, and then I was driving the tractor around for 20 minutes or so after I finished bush hogging. After that, I stopped the tractor so I could pick up some small tree branches from the ground. I'm pretty sure I wasn't bush hogging during the entire ~20 minutes I was driving around.

My memory does suck, though - so on the off chance that the PTO was engaged, is there a way I can disengage it now? I've already tried a couple things in an attempt to do that. Also - what, if anything, can I examine on the tractor that will show me whether or not the PTO is engaged?

If your PTO button is like mine you push and turn to engage, and just push to disengage.

When you first turn on the key, all the dash lights will light up, then there should be a light on the dash to confirm P-Brake on. The PTO light should show whether the switch is on or not. There may also be a Neutral light, not certain on your model. May sound funny but sometimes it is the simple things. Try raising and lowering your seat again. Maybe it didn't seat all the way? Good luck.

Also, is there any chance when you were brush hogging that something snagged a wire underneath the tractor? That can happen sometimes too.

If you haven't tried it yet, press the brake pedal down further. Having the parking brake set may not have the brake pedal down far enough for the tractor to sense the pedal is depressed. We have seen this happen a few times.

Hope this helps

If you have 'AutoPTO' On, then the PTO will stop when you lift the bushhog, but the PTO button will still be On, stopping the engine when you stand up, and preventing you from starting the tractor later.. You have to actually turn the PTO switch counterclockwise to disengage it.

That actually sounds more likely since the tractor should have kept running even with PTO engaged.

Oyl, didn't think about AutoPTO since I don't have it... 😄

Its a nice feature for mowing, but I have forgotten and had the heart dropping moment after not disengaging the PTO before parking for the night.

You may want to try wiggling your range selector to make sure it's all the way in neutral or try one of the other neutrals. Mine seems pretty sensitive to that, I can feel it's in the neutral detent but sometimes it doesn't think it's all the way in on the sensor.
