George C Scott, Michael Sarrazin in the 1967 movie "The Flim Flam man" "you can't flim flam an honest man".

This is a variation of the "pigeon drop" con that was done on Slim Pickens in the back alley. At some point that bank official is going to ask for a small amount of money for you to receive the 7.8 Million. As I said above you can't flim flam an honest man. Anyone that responds to the letter is dishonest and deserves to be flim flammed, or so the sender rationalizes.

That scam has been around the block for decades.

Entertaining read. Similar to the Nigerian Prince scam, except what funds the scanner needs in advance not disclosed (yet).

I just watched one of those "I won the lottery!" shows, and I certainly don't want millions of dollars. I'd rather be happy and poor.

I must admit, as in real life, I didn't get past the second paragraph before continuing on. Mail like that seldom makes it past the shredder in my office.

I agree with the comments above. However, it's good to bring scams like this out in the light as they must be sucking some people in with it. A friend's son fell for the Western Union scam about 15 years ago; apparently he showed her the letter, they talked about it for several weeks and he finally decided it was legit. Yet they never mentioned it to anybody including the CU which cashed the check, so he got stuck for $5k.

The bigger question here is how can we help him spend his new found wealth !
and should it have R1's or R4's !

Solution: One tractor of each tire type.

Get a pair of larger tractors and a pair of smaller tractors and do the same.

Plus implements for each.

I must somehow made it to a phone scam list recently.
Keep getting calls saying a possible fraud on my CC.
Always same voice but never mentions what bank card (I have a few).
I simply hang up!

Nothing like GOING BIG! If they'd said something like $50k or so, something a bit more realistic, then perhaps there could be a few more bites.

I had never heard of Laurentian bank, but google shows offices all across Canada. Some kind of financial advisor-looking operation
as far as I saw. I didn't look very hard, was just curious.
The phone number at the bottom gives google results pointing to a scam - according to Laurentian Bank.
Interesting psychology - Died in 2011 and it's 2021 and the time is up in 10 years from death. Better hurry LOL
Comments like "work from the inside", "same last name and country, not hard to prove......." speaks to letter-writer knowing it's illegal.
It would be interesting to see what the next step is after contacting, but again, I'm naturally curious.
It is definately a scam.

Sorry for your loss.... hehe

I enjoyed the last line "This is the opportunity of a lifetime and people achieve it every day."

In other words, if you did not pick up on the fact that this is a scam earlier in the letter...how many multi-million dollar estates are left unclaimed?

OP here. If I didn't care about Brian having my email, I'd contact him requesting a DNA sample from Uncle Henry, in case someone asks. People are exhumed every day.

Just curious, what is the location on the postmark on the envelope.

Years ago, I knew an elderly gal (likely passed on by now).

She got notification that she had won the London Lottery..... MILLIONS of dollars... only problem is, she had to pay the tax.

She had by happenstance, recently sold some inherited family property so had $400K sitting around that she was looking to invest (this is where I was coming into the picture).

If I recall the gist of the story, she sent them $200K for 'taxes' as the rest of her $400K hadn't settled the estate process yet.

I spent H.O.U.R.S. with her trying to prove to her that this was a scam.

She finally started to thaw and "someone ELSE" reached out to her saying that she had been scammed by these people.... but THIS entity was going to get her money back, HOWEVER, they needed some funds up front to pay for the detective work to catch the crooks.....

(yes she was falling for 100% of this)

So the guy who's doing the work.... who as I recall lived in Switzerland (how would he know she won the London lottery when he didn't know her and lived in Switzerland is beyond me of course)

GASP, he was on the verge of catching them when.....he had a heart attack, had to go in for emergency surgery..... NOW he needs some funds to pay his medical bills, before he can finalize finding the crooks.....

(to be fair and honest, this was 20 years ago so I'm not as in tune with the details as I was then)

Anyway, somewhere along this process "THEY GOT HER MONEY BACK FOR HER!!!!!"

Yay!!!

Well.....sort of.

They recovered all the cash and were going to PERSONALLY fly from (London, Switzerland??) to PERSONALLY deliver the CASH to her in a suitcase.

Don't you know that they stuffed all that cash into a suitcase, jumped on a plane after getting all that raw cash through security. Flew to the Knoxville airport and, oh, those dunderheads..... when they rented a car at the airport to drive to her house to deliver the cash, they turned RIGHT instead of LEFT on leaving the airport, ending up in the small town south of Knoxville and got LOST.

Having hounded her for a couple years about this, they suddenly either forgot how to use their cell phones or email..... "finally found their way back to the airport STILL with her cash in their hands"...... and simply flew home.

This story had gotten SO convoluted and absurd that her own daughter finally threw her hands up in disgust and gave up on her mother trying to think clearly. This was also about the time I too decided you can't save everyone and with God as my witness, I (and her daughter) gave it a valiant try.

My understanding is she lost the entire proceeds from the estate ($400K)

Totally senseless and stupid of her.
