Insider information from a member of the city council of what was discussed at the closed meeting. Something like they couldn't risk having a business opening that started at $37/hr in an area that had an average income of $10 an hour at the time. They were afraid that Toyota would close the plant at a later time which would destroy the economy of the town.
This is the only example I have ever seen of the phrase, "being afraid of success".

So? 60K a year is a living wage, one where you can help the kids through college; if you think that is a lot of money, think again.
There have been conflicting reports about what they are actually making. One article that someone posted on this thread stated that the line workers are only making $39K a year so I don't really know. Please read my post about the company. There was equal criticism given.

Because when the news first started reporting on the strike they listed what the line workers were making at 60K+ a year. Then that changed a few days later.

my thoughts too and i'm curious but then again

didn't a certain govt entity tell amazon to stay away because of similar issues?

It happens all the time in parts of the Bay Area… specifically when it comes to franchise businesses or non-union grocery…
