Shipping container for tractor storage

I looked into using a shipping container for implement storage a couple of years ago. It seemed like a great idea until the rural county where I live decided to tax anything on a property without wheels. Without farm assessment, my steel tool shed, my patio storage box, even my coal bin became fair game for added taxation.

I thought about being a smart A** and getting a used 52' trailer on wheels but the ramp to get the equipment inside would be too cumbersome.

Instead, I invested in a rack system in my existing building to take advantage of the unused space.
How about slapping on some old wagon wheels for decoration and getting around the letter of the law? :p

Dig a hole for the wheels.

Or build a low retaining wall with a dirt ramp, with the back of the trailer up to it.

Does the county say how large the wheels must be?

:)

The trailer has to look like it can be used and must appear to be mobile

There’s loading docks dug lower than the building. Just dig a 2 foot hole and build a 2 foot retaining wall. It could be used if you wanted to.

My dad found a 52' trailer, dug a hole to lower axles it in and called it good. Lasted that way for 30 years until he sold house and new owner removed it.

Couple kids with an axe broke into mine when it was waiting on me to move it. The Corvette stored inside was a playtoy to them, judging by the amount of candle wax that was left. Glad i didn't lock the car, or leave the keys in it, as the results could have been worse!
Just sitting a container on the ground increases the decomposition of them, so burying it probably isn't a good idea.

I used a 40' aluminum container for storing an old car, scaffolding and left over construction materials for 20 years. This was in Richmond B.C. where the climate is similar to Seattle. I was amazed at how much condensation could gather on the ceiling. I had lots of used 2" foam available and using this to cover the roof worked quite well to control the condensation. Over the years, the foam deteriorated and disappeared and all the condensation reappeared except where I had started storing an aluminum car top boat on the roof. I then used a bunch of old tires to cover the vacant spaces. I was located in the back corner of the property so the not so visually appealing sight didn't matter. You might have something else available to cover the roof for a cheap solution to the condensation problem. It doesn't have to be expensive insulation.

Im toying with the idea of a shipping container for storing tractor and other equipment on our new property. The ID of the container door is 101.5 tall at its smallest point. Specs for the tractor im eyeing are 100.7in tall with Ag tires. I have no way to test fitment before purchase......

Thoughts please.
Respectfully, do not buy it.

Containers have a small lip (like a threshold). Even if the container is measured at this point, one could not go in at an angle. Packing freight on containers we always had a "margin of error" on the crates. When loading, if the forklift was tilted one could not get crates in the container. We use to push the crates in with a lift.

Look into buying a "high cube" container. They often come 9+ feet tall.
