And they can fix, weld or fabricate things like you wouldn’t believe. I have an Amish welding shop an Amish hydraulic shop that help me keep going.
Not much on electronics though
There are harness shops there also, seem to be well made. They're not lazy! Good prices things we've bought.
I have a local Mennonite friend who has been offered a few million for his farm. It's been in family for generations and he says what would he do with that money?

Speaking of EVs, if you haven't heard about Blue Oval City you should check it out: https://media.ford.com/content/ford...lead-americas-shift-to-electric-vehicles.html. It's an 11 billion dollar investment to create the largest and most advanced production complex in Ford's history. Six square miles with 2 battery plants, a tech college to train EV workers for the 11,000 new jobs, and battery recycling with 0 going to landfills. It will also help them address the massive consumer demand for EVs where they need to triple Mach-E production and they had to stop taking preorders for the Lightning pickup because the first 3 years of production were already spoken for.

I also had the chance to go by Tesla's Gigafactory in Texas last week which is similar in concept and touted to be the largest building in the world based on footprint. It's bigger than you're imagining. It should be making Cybertrucks and Model Ys next year with their electric Semi following. You can join the Amish and resist change if you like but the rest of the world is moving on.
Trolls will troll and deniers will deny but everyone posting grasps mobility technology is in a paradyme shift and sooner or later they may be riding in a non ICEV.

All posting here are advancing the New Energy vehicle movement. Everyone can count and most are not penny wise and pound foolish. Paradyme shifts follow the hockey stick pattern. New Energy vehicles are not in ramp mode yet. Ramp mode will happen after three OEMs financially throw in the towel. FUD which is Fear, Uncertainty and Denialism is not yet out if business but will be by 2040.

Many Babyboomers wealth will finance the coming EV boom when we are mandated/forced to transfer our wealth to the next generation. :)

Some of us are going to have fun buying EVs with the kids inheritance but others not so much. They will work to insure $200 per barrel crude by burning as much of the kids inheritance on fossil fuels as possible.

As Gale notes, economies of scale is important/critical. Keep in mind that reducing the extraction of fossil fuels (here is for crude oil) means "economies of scale IN REVERSE." We might be tossing out the baby with the bathwater...

Everything produced from a barrel of oil will become more expensive, and that includes a lot of the roads that EVs would travel on:

Gee...sure wished I was half as smart as you...avoiding the truth with nonsense.
Soooooo you then believe the construction of these gargantuan facilities, the manufacturing of EVs, batteries, solar panels, etc., causes NO-zero pollution, no environmental impact, no heat.
Amazing!
Gee you're intelligent!
Hopefully they would be modern facilities built to modern pollution and safety standards, unlike the current auto industry. Vast areas of North America are already wastelands thanks to the last century. Those investments need to be retired.

The Amish use more small gas engines than anybody...
Sure you're not writing about the Mennonites?
I lived in PA, as most of you know, which has a large Amish community in Lancaster County. I've never seen the Amish using gas engines for their personal use. It's my understanding they can use powered equipment when working for someone else and they can ride in vehicles...just can't own one or drive
Mennonites, although somewhat similar to the Amish, don't have all the same restrictions on their way of life...

Of course you are correct, Roy.
Once he realized how inaccurate the claim was, he modified it to “gas engines on the farm

There is a wide range between what different sects of Amish and Mennonites can do involving cars, etc. some of my wife’s relatives are Mennonite. New order can drive, and they have electric. Old order can’t. There are some in between. Went to a Mennonite wedding once, over 3 hours in the middle of summer in a non air conditioned building. Was about an equal mix of cars and horse/buggies attending.

Amish on the other hand pretty much don’t have either. Quite a few Amish have moved into the area where I grew up.

I used an Amish crew to reroof my house, they have a driver to bring them, they did use a gasoline powered buggy to collect the old shingles. They foreman had a work cellphone. They were all nice and good workers.
