God Jul one and all.

My paternal grand parents were Swedish immigrants so we always celebrated with a traditional Swedish Christmas eve Smorgasbord at their house. We have kept the tradition up and still do meatballs, sill, press sylta, and several more American dishes to keep the family new comers happy.

My kids and my grand kids all know the Tomte's are checking on their behavior and that they had better be on their best behavior if they want any gifts.

Unfortunately due to Covid and far flung families we were not able to gather together this year.

From the picture I thought that it was spare ribs and sauerkraut... a memory from my childhood.

Scotland is relatively close to Norway so people moved back and forth, I have a tiny bit of Scottish blood according to those that do heritage in my family.

Interesting, my SIL is Italian, they do a feast of 12 fishes, which sounds similar to the Ukrainian tradition.

In German it would be Kirche.

I proposed to my wife in front of both families at a Cristmas Eve traditional Ukranian 12 meatless dishes celebration that my brother and I organized. No one knew I was going to do it except him and my grandmother, who I showed the ring to just before dinner. To this day I still remember the sparkle in her eyes!

A bit of a risk, I suppose. What if she said no? Fortunately she said yes.

That was almost 29 years ago. And we are still sharing our lives together.
