In my experience, most of the diesels were 24 volt up until about 1968 or so. I have never seen a 12 volt diesel that was OEM from the early years.
You are correct before 1969 JD rowcrop tractors with diesel engines had 24 volt electrical systems & beginning in 1969 diesel powered JD RC tractors had 12 volt electrical systems.

If I wanted to do that stuff, I'd just buy an alternator and starter & skip the kit.
I suggest to purchase individual parts & create your own 24V to 12 V conversion kit.

Looked at the link you provided and I really am not seeing any benefit to paying extra for any of the kits. They are all pretty much showing the same parts except for one kit which includes a voltage gauge.

The transition looks pretty simple. Looks like all the kits are using the same Delco alternator and starter which are both very common and easy to find.

One needs to be careful when choosing a starter that's not in a 24v to 12v conversion kit so starter & solenoid is compact enough to fit under 4010 diesel intake manifold.

Do you have an opinion on a good problem free conversion kit?

I get real irritated when I pay extra money for a kit and then the alternator has to have the pulley changed or a mount made.

If I wanted to do that stuff, I'd just buy an alternator and starter & skip the kit.
simple way would take alternator and starter to a rebuild shop and have them changed. all you need then would be a 24v to 12v converter for electrical.

The accessories are already 12 volt and it has a generator, not an alternator. Part of the benefit of the conversion is upgrading to an alternator.

24 volt starters converted to 12 volts don't appear to perform as well as a standard 12 volt starter.

Reminded me of the 1960s when old six-volt car batteries could no longer do the work demanded of them. A garage downtown specialized in converting them to use an eight-volt battery, which used to be common for houses running on 32-volt electricity. (The house powerplant had four batteries for the diesel or gas generator to charge and which in turn powered the lights and perhaps other stuff.) It only required some rewiring of the car's generator. Made a magnificent improvement in the light thrown by the car's headlamps and the speed of the starter motor.

I really do not want to spend the time making an alternator mount and I don't want to buy a kit that the alternator pulley or mount has to be altered.

I have health issues and any little thing can set me back days. I tried hiring it done, but can't find any roving mechanics anymore

Sorry about your health problems. I fully understand about health problems because I've has spinal cord damage since Feb of 1996. Advancing age has made my muscle control worse BUT life goes on!
