Great lake boats, a good video

Here is a old film made by the state of MI about the building of our Lift bridge found here. Watching it, I learned that guys went into pressurized underwater casements to excavate them out. This was quite the project. During it, they also show the waterway they are crossing.
Wonder what size engine is needed to lift it? I presume it's pretty small with all the counterweight? I heard somewhere the older swing bridges were so well counter balanced the equivalent of a lawn mower engine could swing them.

The last few boats for the season are sailing out of Duluth. They hired a tug to break for them. This is the latest video Paul S made and what he said is pasted below.

They were the last ship to arrive Duluth in 2021, also the topic of my yesterdays video. I opted to post this one since it was a extraordinary morning in Duluth! Sorry for the 2 in a row Queen videos. Believe it or not, it is quite fun to catch these ships in this weather! It really brings out the dedicated people when it gets this cold. I am quite happy this season we are actually getting Ice and frozen ships! I was quite surprised they were actually departing! Generally in these cold temperatures, things at the docks break! In fact, after they had departed I did catch the Barker calling off the tugs for tonight, they stated the dock conveyor is broken and they cannot load tonight. The Barker was the next vessel to load at SMET. The Queen is loaded with Western Coal, heading to St Clair to deliver. I believe they have 1 more visit this season. I snuck in a few more photos in this video, it was too hard to choose what to post and what not to.

You know it's cold when you hear the snow crunching under your boots.

Great video with the sunshine. (y)

I generally know when it's around 10F degrees or colder when the hair in my nose freezes. :ROFLMAO:
I'd say that's a good indicator!!
